Asteroid B 12 Winter Pullover Pattern: Knitting Project with Ladder Stitch and Modern Lavender Hue

Asteroid B 12

by Maggie Vremec Yoke winter pullover. Combination of ladder stitch, knit stitch and 3 stitches rib gives it a sort of dynamic and movement feeling. Modern lavender colour is also more or less colour of the planet Asteroid B 12 (at least in my version of Little Prince).

Measure: M

Final length from the center of the neckline: 56 cm Gauge: 18 sts and 24 rows for 10 cm

Material: 400 g

8 skeines ( original project colour: Oscar, Deltex slo n. 402) Original project material composition: $25\ \%$ wool, $75\ \%$ acril Needles: circular n. 5 and if you don't use magic loop tecnic dbp needles n. 5 Stitches used: ladder st, knit, purl

Body

Cast on 153 sts with circular needle n. 5. Do 3k 3p rib. Continue for 8 cm. In first row after ribbing make: $19\mathrm{p}$ , $57\mathrm{k}$ ,19p, $57\mathrm{k}$ . Attention: as the number of sts had to be multiple of 3 for the 3sts rib, you have to decrease 1 stitch in one of the purl parts (actually there are $20\mathrm{p},57\mathrm{k},19\mathrm{p},57\mathrm{k})$ . Put the stitch markers to divide front and back part (i.e. after $9^{\mathrm{th}}$ stitch of purl part). Second row: start ledder stitch on the knit sts. You have $19\textbf{x}3$ sts in front part and the same on the back.

Ladder stitch is

very simple. Make yarn over, knit 3 and pull yo over this three sts leaving it from the needle in order to form a "rung". Knit 3. Repeate. In this case the pattern is made in 8 rows. You make

"rungs" in each second row, the row between is simple knit. I started with $3\mathbf{k}$ ,rung, $3\mathbf{k}$ , rung ... After 8 rows you change "rung" section (i.. rung, $3\mathbf{k}$ rung). Purl part is nice to make waist shaping. Decrease 1 sts (by knitting 2 central sts of both purl parts together 7 times). You can do it in each 4th row, or on each second rung of the “ladders". Now purl part has 12 sts. Continue until the arm hole (which in my case was about 47 cm from the beginning. ) For the arm hole bind off $^\textrm{\scriptsize1x3}$ and $^\textrm{\scriptsize1x2}$ sts from the central purl part stitch on the front and back side for both arms. Attention: as you after first binding off pass from circular knitting to flat knitting, the rungs might appear on purl row. No panic - do just in the same way as you did in circular knitting - yo, puri 3, pull yo over 3purl and leave it from the needle. Leave 59 sts of the back and 59 sts of the front on the needles, waiting for the yoke.

Sleeves

Cast on 48 sts. Do 3k3p rib. After 8 cm start purl stitch. Add 6 sts (1 sts each 8 sts) in order to obtain 54 sts. Continue for about $31~\mathrm{cm}$ (attention: measure two ladders high, subtract this number from the total arm length minus 8 cm of rib and stop with purl stitch on that high. In my case this was $31~\mathrm{cm}$ ) Pass to ladder stitch and make one ladder. In “only knit row" after the $4^{\mathrm{th}}$ rung add 3 sts above the rung section which will be under armpit. Start the second section of ladder stitch and in the first only knit row (after the first rung) add other 3 sts in the same 3k (now 6k) section under armpit, obtaining in this way $9\mathbf{k}$ sts, 63 sts in total. After finishing the second ladder start the third one binding off $^\textrm{\scriptsize1x3}$ and $^\textrm{\scriptsize1x2}$ sts on both sides from central stitch of the $9\mathbf{k}$ section for the armhole Attention: as you after first binding off pass from circular knitting to flat knitting, the rungs might appear on purl row. No panic - do just in the same way as you did in circular knitting - yo, purl 3, pull yo over 3purl and leave it from the needle. Leave 53 sts of each sleeve on the needle, waiting for the yoke.

Yoke

Your situation is: 59 sts back, 53 sts sleeve, 59 sts back, 53 sts sleeve. When you join all parts together add 1 stitch on each junction in order to obtain the number which can be divided by 3, i.e. 228 sts. Do ladder stitch. My junction appeared on the first rung of new ladder section. Knit the first ladder.

1st. decreasing:

in the “only purl row" after the 4th rung of the first ladder of the yoke knit first two sts above the rungs together, decreasing in this way after each 5 sts one stitch. You should have 190 sts on your needle now. Make another ladder section, this time there will be only 2 sts between rungs.

2nd decreasing

In the last only knit row after the $4^{\mathrm{th}}$ rug knit together first two sts after each rung. Now you should have 153 sts. Continue in purl stitch for $3\;\mathrm{cm}$

3rd decreasing.

After 3 rows separate all the sts in four parts: 38 shoulders, 38/39 body or back. Decrease 6 sts on each shoulder part (starting at the beginning of shoulder part knit 4 sts 2 tog, and then 5 times knit 2 sts together after 5 sts). Now you should have 140 sts. Continue for $2\;\mathrm{cm}$

4th decreasing

Knit 2 sts together each 3 sts. Only in the centre of body and back make 1 decreasing after 4 instead of3 sts. In this way you've decreased 46 sts. You should have 94 sts on your needle. Knit 1 cm.

5th decreasing

Knit 2 sts together after each 3 sts. Only four times do it after 4 sts. In this way you've decreased 28 sts. Now you should have 66 sts on your needle. Knit until your neck beginning In my case it was another $3\;\mathrm{cm}$

Collar

In 66 sts make 3k 3p rib. After 2 cm you can do in two ways to have better fit for your neck: first - pass on needle n. 4 and make 3 cm with this number, than return to needle n. 5 or second - decrease number of sts knitting two sts together on each second purl section ( so your rib will become 3k2p3k3p3k2p3k3p3k2p .) knit for 3 cm and than add sts you've decreased. I used the second way. Knit until you arrive to twice of your neck height. To make it fall better, I've made last 4 rows with needle n. 6.
