Materials:
Loden: 8, (8, 9, 10, 10)-50G balls, color 734 Gauge: 18 sts, 24 rows= 4" in st st on size 8 needles. Needles: US Size 8 knitting needles, scrap yarn, crochet hook size C-3mm, 2.5cm diameter button, tapestry needle. Pattern is written for smallest size, with larger sizes in parenthesis. If only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. Popcorn Pattern (Multiple of 4 sts + 1) Rows 1 & 3 (WS): purl Row 2: (k1, p1, k1) all in next stitch, \*p3tog, (k1, p1, k1) all in next stitch; rep from \* across row. Row 4: p3tog, \*(k1, p1, k1) all in next stitch, p3tog; rep from \* across row. Row 5: Repeat first row. Keep in mind that at the end of the 2"d and 3rd row there will always be 2 extra sts as to the cast on sts and the sts you will have at the end of the 1st and 4th row.

Cast on 83, (95, 103, 115, 123) sts, for the border, set patt as foll: 1 selv st, 81, (93, 101, 113, 121) sts in popcorn patt, 1 selv st. At 6cm from beg of border (=14 rows) cont in st st, dec 8, (14, 10, 14, 12) sts evenly spaced across the 1" row, obtaining 75, (83, 93, 101, 111) sts. At 27cm from the border (=64 rows) for the armholes bind off each side 2, (3, 4, 5, 6) sts. Then dec., every other row, 2 sts on each side once, and 1 stitch on each side 2, (3, 5, 5, 7) times. At 17.5, (17.5, 19, 20, 21.5) cm from the beg of the armholes (=42, (42, 46, 48, 52) rows) bind off the central 27, (27, 27, 29, 29) sts for the neckline edge (nape) and end each part separately. At the same time, for each shoulder bind off twice 9, (10, 11, 12, 13) sts every 2 rows.

At 24.5cm from the border (=59 rows) on WS work a buttonhole within the last 3 sts; for the buttonhole bind off 3 sts and cast them on again. Then dec at the armhole edge 2 sts once, and then 1 stitch 2, (3, 5, 5, 7) times. Cont in this way, always enlarging by 1 st leftwards the part of the popcorn pat in which the RS of work results on the WS of the jacket. At 12.5cm from the beg of the armholes (=30 rows) start inc every 4 rows, 1 st between the last stitch of the popcorm pattand the 1 st st, and work these incs in popcorm pat as you proceed until for the lapel you have 29 or 31 sts (respectively at the end of a 1 or a 3rd row of the popcorn patt). At 17.5, (17.5, 19, 20, 21.5) cm from beg of armhole (=42, (42, 46, 48, 52) rows) for the shoulders bind off at left edge twice 9, (10, 11, 12, 13) sts every 2 rows and cont only on the sts of the lapel. At 9cm from the end of the shoulder (= 22 rows) bind off all sts. Left Front Work as the right front reversing shaping and omitting the buttonhole.
Sleeves

At 6cm (=14 rows) cont in st st dec 11, (11, x, x, x) sts evenly spaced across the 1" row, obtaining 50, (50, 54, 54, 54) sts and, after having worked 20 rows, start inc each side, within the first and last 2 sts, 2, (4, 4, 6, 8) times 1 st every 40, (20, 20, 12, 10) rows. 54, (58, 62, 66, 70) sts. At 45 cm from the border (=108 rows) for the armholes bind off each side 2, (3, 4, 5, 6) sts then dec, every other row, 2 sts twice, 1 st 11 times, 2 sts twice. At 13.5cm from the beg of armholes (=32 rows) bind off remaining 12, (14, 16, 18, 20) sts. At 9cm from the flap (=22 rows) work a few rows with the scrap yarn then bind off all sts.
Button
With crochet hook ch4 and work: 1" round: 13 dc from 4"h ch from hook, 1 sl st in the 4" initial ch. 2"d round: chl, sc in following st inserting hook only in the front loop of st, chl,\*1 sc in each of the following 2 sts inserting hook only in the front loop of sts, ch1; rep from \* to \* 6 times, 1 sl st in the 1s ch of round. Break yarn leaving a sufficient long end. Insert the button in the cover using the WS if work as the RS. With the remaining yarn pull tight and close the final ring, then fasten yarn on WS.
Finishing
Join shoulder seams. Join the collar with the center back seam, then sew the collar to the neckline edge (nape). Join side seams. Sew and mount sleeves. Lightly steam-iron pockets. Unrip the rows in the scrap yarn and place the pockets on front pieces (with st st on RS of work), at the end of the popcorn pattern border. With the tapestry needle join the bottom edge in duplicate st, then join the vertical edges with a blindstitch. Turn down the flap with the point towards the bottom.
