The Butt Sweater
The Butt Sweaterhas a ribbed waist with an i-cord or ribbon tie, and a just-frilly-enough-to-be-girly hemline.
Get Ready:
Amount of yarn depends on length of skirt (I used less than two skeins of Bendigo Woolen Mills, 8ply cotton for skirt pictured, size 36). Cotton is nice for summer, wool for cooler weather. Size 5 circulars (or size needed to obtain guage) Size 4 circulars

Size: (inches measured at widest part of your hips) 34 (35,36,37,38,39, 40) inches
Get Set:
Guage: 6 stitches per inch Abbreviations: CO cast on BO bind off K2tog knit 2 together YO yarn over kfb knit front and back of loop

Knit!
Waist: With smaller needles CO Loosely 208 (216, 216, 224,232, 240, 240) Rows 1 - 5 (k2, p2) around Row 6 (k2tog, yo, p2) around Rows 7 - 10 (k2, p2) around

Main Skirt:
Switch to larger needles and knit in stockinette stitch until you reach a length that makes you happy. Remember that your hem will add about 5.5 inches.
Hem:
Switch to smaller needles. Row 1 Purl Row 2 Knit Row 3 Purl Row 4 Knit Row 5 Purl Switch to larger needles. Row 6 kfb all the way around. Row 7 - 11 Knit Row 12 k2tog all the way around. Switch to smaller needles. Row 13 Purl. Row 14 Knit Row 15 Purl Row 16 Knit Row 17 Purl Switch to larger needles. Row 18 (k1, kfb) around Knit for 3 inches Row 19 Purl Row 20 Knit Row 21 Purl Row 22 Knit Row 23 BO purl-wise. Weave in ends.

I-cord tie: CO 3 stitches, make I cord. Or use a pretty ribbon. Weave in through eyelet round.
