Pattern illustration

Yarn: Schaeffer Little Lola (worsted weight), 1 skein (280 yds), shown here in colorway Dillon Lake Gauge: 3.5 sts and 6 Rnds per inch in Stockinette Needle Size: US 8 & 9 (I used a $16^{\circ}$ Addi Turbo and dpns for the top) Notions: 2 really cute big buttons, cable needle, yarn needle, stitch markers. Bouncy beret-style hats are quite the rage these days. I've re-written my original Capitan pattern into a big, floppy hat in worsted weight yarn for this winter's fashion conscious.

After several tries on the original Capitan hat, I decided to go with a brim inspired by that one on the Cabled Newsboy Cap by Shannita Williams-Alleyne in Stitch & Bitch Nation. Shannita: thanks for designing that kick-butt brim! I love it! Using size 8 needles, PU 10 sts along center front of hat, encompassing the two center cables. You'll be working back and forth in rows now. Row 1 (WS): purl across. Row 2: k2, M1R, PM, k6, PM, M1L, k2, PU and knit 2 sts from hat CO edge. Row 3: p to end, PU 2 sts from hat CO edge. Row 4: k to marker, M1R, SM, k6, SM, M1L, k to end, PU and knit 2 sts from hat CO edge. Row 5: repeat Row 3.
