Knit up a little necklace this spring! Delicate yet quick to make up, this beaded choker necklace is a "clover lace" pattern with a crochet bind off. Great for gifts! You can personalize it with a pendant of your choice, or leave it delicate and understated. The pattern can be extended to use as a trim or edging on garments as well. Make it bridal with white silk and pearls, or go sparkly with crystals and gemstones - your imagination is the only limit! Knowledge of lace, beading, and very basic crochet skills will have you on your way to a great little accessory in no time!
General Information:
Size:
14.5" choker length. With extension chain (green) it can be extended to about 16 inches.
Materials:
One skein DMC "Pearl Cotton, Size 5", shade no. 988 (green necklace), or about 20 yards of Halcyon Yarn's "2/12 Gemstone Silk", color no. 114 (purple necklace). 25 size 6/o glass beads in "Metallic Gold" A pendant of your choice (optional) One toggle-style jewelry clasp.
Needles and Notions
One pair U.S. 0 (3.25mm) needles Size B (2.25 mm) crochet hook for bind off Size 9 (1.15 mm) lace steel crochet hook for beading Darning needle
Gauge:
Approximately 7 repeats = 4 inches. It is a four stitch pattern repeat Blocking, weight of the pendant, and wear may affect this measurement slightly.
Abbreviations used in this pattern:
ch - chain with crochet hook ndl - needle sl - slip st CO - Cast on stitches P-Purl yo - yarn over K-Knit pw - purl wise RH - right hand k2tog - Knit next 2 sts together ssk - Slip next 2 sts knit wise, yrh - yarn round hook k3tog - Knit next 3 sts together then knit together st(s) - stitch(es) LH - left hand through back loops.
Beading:
b1p - P next st., then bead as follows: Slip 1 bead onto the head of smaller steel hook, then hook the st just made, slipping it off the RH knitting needle. Slide bead down over the st by pulling it through bead with hook. Replace st on RH needle, and gently tension st again. Knit beaded lace:
With knitting needles, C0 104 stitches (25 repeats plus 4 selvedge stitches) You may wish to leave a 36"tail to create the extension chain for the toggle clasp. Row1: Knit row (Wrong Side) Row2: K2, \*K2, yo, ssk; repeat from \* to last 2 sts., K2 Row3: K2, P1, \*b1p, P3; repeat from \* to last 5 sts., b1p, P2, K2 Row4: K2, K2tog, \*yo, K1, yo, K3tog; repeat from \* to last 4 sts., yo, K1, yo, K2tog, K1 Row5:Knit row
Turn for crochet bind off:
Note: To attach a pendant as you bind off (optional), bind off until you are working into the stitch over the center bead, the 13th from the end, and attach the pendant with a slip stitch, then continue on with the bind off. Using the larger hook in place of your RH needle, holding the yarn now for crochet, insert the hook p.w. into the 1st st. removing from the LH needle, ch1. \*sl3 pw onto hook, yrh, pull through 3 sts., yrh, pull through 2 sts., ch3, sl1 pw onto hook, yrh, pull through 1 st., yrh, pull through 2 on hook, ch3; repeat from \* to last 3 sts, sl3 pw onto hook, yrh, pull through 3 sts., yrh, pull through 2 on hook. Tie off work.

Finishing:
To create an extension “chain", use the tail from cast on,or attach a new thread to one side of the top (cast on edge) of the necklace. Begin by pulling a loop up on hook, ch15, attach the metal hoop of the toggle clasp to the end of the chain length with a slip stitch, then \*ch3, skip 3 ch, sc into next ch ; repeat from \* 3 times more. Secure tail. Attach the metal bar of the toggle clasp to the other end of the necklace. Darn in all ends and block firmly tilting the pins outward slightly to pull the lace open. Attach a pendant if desired and not already done in the bind off.
