The Twitterpation Cowl
A few months ago, maybe a bit before the holidays, a neckwear swap was organized through twitter to be culminated in february. I joined up, then kind of forgot about it, and then february came and i panicked. "holy crap i have to make something!" I call it Twitterpation because it was designed for a swap initiated on twitter and the Urban Dictionary defines "twitterpated" as follows: 1)to be completely enamored with someone/something. 2) the flighty exciting feeling you get when you think about/see the object of your affection. 3) romantically excited (i.e.: aroused) 4) the ever increasing acceleration of heartbeat and body temperature as a result of being engulfed amidst the exhilaration and joy of being/having a romantic entity in someone's life. Heh! Anyway, it's super easy and if you know how to chain, single crochet and double crochet, you are good to go. This cowl is crocheted flat and then sewn together. For a cowl 11.5 inches in diameter and 8.5 inches tall. Materials: DK weight yarn, approximately 250 yards. I used 2 skeins of Knitpicks Gloss DK in Gulfstream. Size H (5.00mm) crochet hook. Sewing needle. Abbreviations: Ch = chain; sc = single crochet; dc = double crochet Chain 105 chains. Row 1 (right side): dc in fourth ch from hook. 2 dc in each of next2 chs, (skip next ch, dc in next ch 5 times, \*skip next ch, 2 dc in each of next 6 chs, (skip next ch, dc in next ch) 5 times; repeat from \* across to last 4 chs, skip next ch, 2 dc in each of last 3 chs. Turn. Row 2: ch 1; sc in each dc across. Turn. Row 3: ch3; dc in first sc, 2 dc in each of next 2 sc, (skip next sc, dc in next sc) 5 times, \*skip next sc, 2 dc in each of next 6 sc, (skip next sc, dc in next sc) 5 times; repeat from \*across to last 4 sc, skip next sc, 2 dc in each of last 3 sc. Repeat rows 2 and 3 10 times. Break yarn leaving a 10 inch end and pull through loop. Thread yarn end and with right sides together, form a tube and sew up the side of the cowl. Then with cowl still inside out and starting from seamed edge, sc in each of the foundation chains. You want to simulate the top edge of the cowl.
