Set up of Chart A
A. The charts are repeated twice with a single knit stitch between them. See Setup of Chart A The chart is worked from right to left and only the right side rows are charted. Jrn rows (even rows) are always K4 P to last 4 stitches K4. The stitches from the chart are in Bol If you wish to use stitch markers, place them after and before the garter stitch borders and either side of the centre stitch (these are the blue lines on the chart) Row 1 K4 YO K1 YO K4 Row 2 K4 P 3 K4 Row3 K4 YO K1 YO K1 YO K1 YO K4 Row 4 K4 P7 K4 Row 5 K4 YO K3 YO K1 YO K3 yO K4 Row 6 K4 P to last 4 stitches K4 Row 7 K4 YO K5 YO K1 YO K5 YO K4 Row9 K4YOK7YOK1YOK7YOK4 RoW 11K4 YO K9 YO K1 YO K9 YO K4 Row 13 K4 YO K1 YO K3 DD K3 YO K1 YO K1 YO K1 YO K3 DD K3 YO K1 YO K4 RoW 15K4 YO K2 YO K3 DD K3 YO K2 YO K1 YO K2 YO K3 DD K3 YO K2 YO K4 Ash Leaf Shawl by DianneB
Work from Charts
Continue with Charts A, B & C. Depending on the amount of yarn either finish after Chart C, D or E. Please Note the number of repeats for each chart. When either row 123, 155 or 190 has been finished, start with the Border Chart for that letter. Note that Border Rows only increase on the last row. Knit one more Row.
Cast Off:
The cast off must be worked fairly loose, I find this cast off gives an elastic edge. K1 \* K1 transfer the last two stitches back to the left hand needle an K2tog thru back loops, repeat from \* until 1 stitch remains, fasten off. Weave in the ends but do nc
Blocking:
This is what transforms your lace from a crumpled heap to beautiful shawl. Soak your lace for at least 30 minutes to make sure the fibres are wet. Gently squeeze the extra moisture out and wrap in a towel to remove more moisture. Lay the shawl out on a blocking board or the floor and gentlysmooth into shape, make sure the measurements rom the back of the neck to the tips are si to the centre measurement. Also check the two sides are the same size. You can eitherleave it to dry just smoothed out or you can block by stretching and pinning your shawl out, the When your shawl is dry, you can trim your ends and wear with pride.
