Tux, the Linux Penguin Blanked worked in Intarsia
If you prefere pure Intarsia over Double Knit Intarsia, work the front and backside of the baby blanked seperately using the two according Charts. I would suggest using Chain stich for the fine lines. This avoids having too many loose ends.
the Linux Penguin in Tricolor Intarsia Double Knitting
By Lina Wolf http://www.ravelry.com/designers/lina-wolf For the pattern use the chart as reference. I uploaded the chart as seperate file in order to improve resolution and total size of the chart. Start by casting on 80Double stitches, using this video for reference: 1 Then follow the chart, read front rows from right to left, back rows from left to right, inverting the colors of the knits and purls. The pillow front is worked fat. You can use large pullover-needles or a magic loop as prefered. This should give you a square peace of knited fabric of about 45cm x 45 cm.

Double Knitting with 3 colors
Each field represents one double stitch consisting of a knit and a purl stitch. The knit stitch will appear on front side of the blanked, the purl will appear on the reverse side. The background color of the field represents the color to be knit, the color to appear on the front side of the blanked, the arrow represents the color to be purled, it will appear on the reverse side. I used a combination of intrasia and real 3 colored double knitting. When I should knit in orange and purl in black, but I still have the white yarn with me I do it as follows: Knit in orange, both black and white pass behind the stitch. Then purl in black. Both the orange and white yarn cross in front of this stitch. Therefore the unused white yarn passes between the two layers formed by the Double Knitting. Don't pull the yarn passing inside too tight. However, where I dont need a color for many stitches I leave behind a little skein. I put the skein in a sock and fix it with a security pin to the blanked. Whenever I leave the area where I need a color I leave it behind. When I return I pick it up again. I used two seperate skeins for the two legs. The green passed inside where I didn't need it. Where there is the whole body I stoped the green inbetween, therefore had two skeins of green and just one in white. For the fowers I used very small skeins of white and passed the white in between the brown and green layers where fowers are close by. If you want you can use yet another color for the fowers. However I like just having 3 colors.
