Materials needed:

· 1 skein Plymouth De Aire (100% Merino wool; 109y/100m per 100 gr) · US 13 (9mm) circular needle, 16" length · US 17 (12.75mm) circular needle, 16" length · stitch marker · tapestry needle

Gauge:

9 stitches over 4 inches in stockinette stitch on larger needle

SIZE:

adult medium slouchy hat Size is easily adaptable (keep an even number of stitches) as is "slouch". If extra yarn is available, a repeat of section A will create a longer, rasta-style hat. The adult medium hat, worked without repeating the A section, used almost one entire skein.

Using smaller needle and knitted-on cast-on, cast on 36 stitches and join in the round, being careful not to twist. Place marker for beginning of round. work in K1, P1 rib for approximately 4 inches. Proceed to part A.

Part a:

When you reach the beginning of round, remove your stitch marker, knit 1 onto larger needle, and place marker. Continue using larger needle. Rounds 1, 3, 5, 7, 9: \*yo, k2tog, repeat from \* Rounds 2, 4, 6, 8, 10: knit When working the final round, slip the last stitch before the marker instead of knitting it. Remove the marker, slip the stitch back to the left needle, place marker, and proceed to part B. part B: Rounds 1, 3, 5, 7, 9: \*ssk, yo, repeat from \* Rounds 2, 4, 6, 8, 10: knit When you reach the end of round 10, remove your stitch marker, knit 1, and place marker. (If you want a slouchier hat, work rounds 1-10 of part A again.) decreases: Round 1: \*k2tog, repeat from \* (18 stitches remain) Rounds 2, 4: knit Round 3: \*k2tog, repeat from \* (9 stitches remain) Round 5: \*k2tog, repeat from \* until 1 stitch remains, K1 (5 stitches remain) Cut yarn, and pull through remaining five stitches.
