Orkney Fingerless Mitts

This fingerless mitt is a lovely way to play with colour combinations whether subtle, bright or wild! This version is knitted in St Magnus Orkney Angora and lambswool DK which is very soft and comes in great colours. These mitts willfit an average sized woman's hand. They are knitted on four double pointed needles.
You will need :
50g St Magnus Orkney Angora/Lamswool DK ( or your own favourite DK yarn). Small amount of contrasting yarn. A set of 3.25 dpns. Tapestry needle for sewing up.
Abbreviations :
DPN - Double pointed needles MC - main colour CC - contrasting colour St (s)- Stitch (es) K -Knit P-Purl Rnd -round Tension : 20 sts and 28 rows t0 1ocm Using a set of 3.25 dpns cast on 36 sts plus one extra stitch in MC. Divide these stitches evenly over three needles. Rnd 1 Slip the last stitch onto the first needle then knit the first and last stitch together. Place a stitch marker. Knit the round. (36sts). Rnd 2-5 Purl in MC. Rnd 6-9 Knit in CC. Rnd 10 Knit in MC. Rnd 11-14 Purl in MC. Repeat rnds 6-14 twice. Next row knit in MC increasing 6 sts evenly thro Continue in MC. Knit 2 rnds. SHAPE THUMB : Rnd 1 K1,M1, K1, M1, K to end.(44 sts). Rnds 2-4 Knit Rnd 5 K1,M1,K3,M1, K to end. (46sts). Rnds 6-8 Knit Rnd 9 K1, M1, K5, M1, K to end. (48sts). Rnds 10-12 Knit. Rnd 13 K1,M1,K7, M1,K to end (50osts). Rnds 14-16 Knit Rnd 17 K1,M1,K9,M1, K to end (52sts) Rnds 18-20 Knit. Rnd 21 K1,M1, K11, M1, K to end (54sts). Rnds 22-24 Knit. Rnd 25 K1, M1, K13, M1, K to end (56sts). Rnds 26-28 Knit Rnd 29 K1, M,K15,M1, Knit to end (58sts). Rnd 30 K1, K next 17sts, cast on 1 st, turn. Rnd 31 P18 sts, cast on1\*(19sts) On these 19 sts only work in stocking stitch for 7 rows. Cast off. With right side facing rejoin the yarn, pick up and K one stitch from the base of the thumb and K to the end of the rnd ( sts). Knit six rows. Purl 4 rows in MC. Knit 4 rows in CC. Knit 1 row in MC. Purl 4 rows in MC. Knit 4 rows in CC. Purl 4 rows on MC. Cast off.
