Yarn: 1 50g ball New Lanark DK, Natural Black. Available from http://www.newlanarkshop.co.uk Needles etc: 4 double pointed needles size 3.75mm, US 5, 1cable needle, 3 stitch holders Tension: Approximately 24sts and 30 rows per 10cm of 4 by 1 rib. Notes: All stitches forming the cable pattern are knit tbl. Alil other knit stitches should be treated as normal. LEFT HAND: Cast on 46 sts using a loose cast on method such as the thumb method. Divide the stitches between 3 DPNs as follows: 23, 10, 13. Round 1: K1, P1, K4, P2, K8, P2, K4, P1, K4, P1, K4, P1, K4, P1, K4, P1, K3 K8 forms the basis for the cabled panel. Continue as set for a further 4 rows Round 6: K1, P1, K4, P2, K8 tbl, P2, K4, P1, K4, P1, K4, P1, K4, P1, K4, P1, K3 Continue as set for a further 4 rows Round 11: Continue as set until you reach the K8tbl panel. Consult cable chart. P2, K4 etc for rest of round as set in previous rows. Continue as set following cable chart untilyou reach round immediately above point marked for thumb. Divide for thumb: As cable chart (K1, P1, K4, K4tbl, P4, K4tbl, K4, P1) then K4, P1, K4, P1, K3, slip 9sts to stitch holder, K1 Next round: (K1, P1, K4, K4tbl, P4, K4tbl, K4, P1) then K4, P1, K4, P1, K3, Cast on 9sts, K1 Continue as set until base of fingers

Fingers:

NOTE: The cable chart includes only the stitches carried on from the hand section and not those which are picked up and cast on. However, the chart is designed in such a fashion that the cabling should appear in the middle of the finger and you should arrange your CO and picked up stitches accordingly. You may wish to pick up and cast on in a slightly different fashion, but the end result should be the same. (3) denotes K1, leave stitch on left needle, K1tbl of same stitch, K1 from same stitch, turn, P3, turn K3, lit $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ and $3^{\mathsf{r d}}$ stitches over $1^{\mathrm{st}}$ stitch. First finger: Leave first 7 sts of round on needle, slip next 16 sts onto stitch holder. Slip next 16 sts onto $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ stitch holder. Leave last 7 sts of round on second needle. 14sts. Knit across the $1^{\mathrm{st}}\,7$ sts as set by cable patten, cast on 2 sts, knit across last 7 sts as set by previous rounds. 16 sts Divide sts equally between needles so you have 8 sts on each, with one of the cast on stitches at the left hand end of each needle. Continue as set by cable pattern for a total of 12 rounds. Bind offloosely. Second finger: Slip $1^{\circ{\mathrm{t}}\,6}$ sts from $1^{\mathrm{st}}$ holder and last 6 stitches from $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ holder onto two needles. With cabling towards you, knit across $1^{\mathrm{st}}\,6$ stitches of round as set by cable chart, CO 2 sts, knit across last 6 stitches as set by previous rows pick up 2 sts. 16 sts. Divide the stitches equally between needles, there. should be a picked up stitch at one end and a cast on stitch at the other end of each. \* Continue as set by cable chart for a total of 12 rounds. Bind off loosely. Third finger: As second finger to \*. Continue as set by cable chart of a total of 10 rounds. Bind offloosely. Fourth finger: Slip the 4 remaining stitches from each holder onto 2 needles. With cabling towards you, knit across $1^{\mathrm{st}}\,4$ stitches of round as set by cable chart, knit across 4 sts from second needle. Pick up 4 sts. 12 sts. Divide sts equally between needles, there should be 2 picked up stitches at the end of each. Continue as set by cable pattern for a total of 8 rounds. Bind off loosely. Thumb: Knit across 9 sts from holder as set by previous rows. Pick up 11 sts from CO sts. Round 2: Knit across 9 sts as set by previous rows, K2tog, K7, K2tog. The pattern of knit and purl sts should follow what fits best with the palm sts. Continue for a totai of 12 rounds. Bind offloosely. RIGHT HAND: Cast on 46 stitches as for left hand. Divide stitches between needles as for left hand (or as makes pattern simplest). Round 1: P1, K4, P2, K8, P2, K4, P1, K4, P1, K4, P1, K4, P1, K4, P1, K4 Continue as set for a further 4 rows Round 5: P1, K4, P2, K8tbl, P2, K4, P1, K4, P1, K4, P1, K4, P1, K4, P1, K4 Continue as set for a further 4 rows Round 11: Consult cable chart. Continue in this fashion until round immediately above point marked for thumb. Divide for thumb: As cable chart (P1, K4, K4tbl, P4, K4tbl, K4, P1, K1), K1, slip next 9 sts onto holder, continue round as set by previous rounds. Next round: continue as set by cable pattern and previous rounds until you reach stitch holder. Cast on 9 sts, continue round as set. Continue as set and from cable chart until base of fingers. Break off yarn. First finger: Slip $1^{\mathrm{st}}$ 16 sts of round onto holder. Slip next 7 sts onto needle, next 7 sts to $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ needle, last 16 sts to $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ holder. \* With cabling towards you, rejoin yarn to last st on $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ needle, CO 2 sts. 16 sts. Arrange sts equally between needles so there are 8 on each and each has a CO stitch at the end. Continue as set by cable chart for a total of 12 rows. Bind off loosely. Second finger: Sl last 6 sts from $1^{\mathrm{st}}$ holder onto needle. SI $1^{\mathrm{st}}\,6$ sts from $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ holder onto $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ needleWicabingwadsoujinatstt $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ needle, CO 2 sts. K across 6 sts of $7^{\circ{\mathrm{t}}}$ needle as set by cable chart, pick up 2 sts. 16 sts. Knit across $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ needle as set by previous rows. Arrange sts equally between needles, each needle should have a CO and PU stitch at each end. Continue as set by cable chart for a total of 12 rounds. Bind off loosely. Third finger: As second finger. Continue as set by cable chart for a total of 10 rounds. Bind off loosely. Fourth finger: Sl four remaining sts from each holder onto 2 needles. With cabling towards you, rejoin yarn and knit across 4 sts of $1^{\mathrm{st}}$ needle as set by cable chart. Pick up 4 sts, knit across $2^{\mathsf{n d}}$ needle as set by previous rounds. 12 sts. Continue as set by cable chart for a total of 8 rounds. Bind off loosely. Thumb: As left hand.
