Circular Rib Beret

Yarn:
I used a Bendigo Mills Alpaca Mix which has since sadly been discontinued but any soft handle 8ply (double knitting) or 10 ply (aran) yarn should give the same floppy'effect. Yardage: 100g approx of 10 ply Colour: Natural Cream
Needle size:
4mm and 5mm circular needle or dpns - if you knit most of it on circular needles you will need 5mm dpns when the crown decreases reduces the number of stitches. Notes before knitting! The recommended needle size for this yarn is 4 -4.5mm. Ihave knitted it on 5mm to give a soft effect. Please bear this in mind if you are using other yarns! This Beret is worked on circular or double pointed needles, working rows in knit or purl, to create ridges and give a soft beret shape. It has been knittedinasoft handle yarnto give the required'sagging' for the shape. The first 10 rows are knitted in stocking stitch to make the first part curl up so that no casting on etc can be seen. This'roll up' then looks like the other ridges. Once the crown decreasing starts, the 'ratio'of rows in knit and purl changesto give fewer knit rows between ridges - the weight of the hat pulls on the higher rows making the knit sections look wider.
