TIPS
1. A "+" sign indicates that you are now working on the other side of a round. It will help you quickly assess whether you are on track as it indicates that you should be at the middle of the toe end of the sole. Each round of the sole will be working up one side and then down the opposite, counterclockwise. The stitches on each side mirror each other. 2. If you wind your balls of yarn on a ball winder, you can pull your two strands from the same ball of yarn, - the inner and out ends. 3. Make sure you don't buy "superwash" yarn as it won't felt. You can substitute two strands of other worsted weight wool yarns, but be mindful that other yarns may felt differently. 4. Small variations from pattern will not show because the item is being felted. No need to drive yourself crazy if you're stitches are off if you've got the right shape. 5. Make sure you work in any loose ends before felting. @ Lydia Hamilton 2013, Moss Crochet Felted Crochet Slippers for Men: The Moccasin 6. Loosely darn closed any accidental holes made that are larger than a pencil eraser.
FELTING
This pattern was tested on both front and top loading washing machines. Please visit http://mosscrochet.blogspot.ca/2014/01/factors-to-consider-when-felting-in.html for tips on felting using a front-loading machine. Top loading washing machines: Wet the slippers in warm water, rinse and place them in the washing machine with normal amount of detergent, picking the hottest water possible and a cold rinse. Place some other items in the machine such as a pair or two of jeans. Check your felting as you go along. When pattern tested, the slippers were "double felted", meaning they went through two cycles before they were ready to be shaped and had reached the desired size.
SHAPING
If the slippers are for yourself, the best way to shape them is by wearing them and gently taking them off to retain the shape of your feet. The slippers can easily shaped by hand, putting your hand in the slipper, encouraging the shape you desire. You can also let the slippers dry with plastic bags stuffed inside to hold the shape especially in the toe box. Be mindful that this slipper is styled to be wide in the toe box.
