Spring Thaw Shrug

Materials: Yarn: 720 yards/659 meters of worsted weight yarn. Shown in Noro Sliver Thaw ( $50\%$ wool, $25\%$ angora, $25\%$ semicashmere nylon): colorway#5, 3 skeins Needles: Size 7 US Note: the size needle noted may not give the correct gauge - always knit a swatch to make sure that you are close enough to match the desired gauge. Gauge: 17 stitches and 24 rows $=$ 4in in stockinette stitch Instructions: Cast on 110 stitches. (I like the long tail method but any stable cast on will work well). Work in seed stitch for 4 rows: Row 1: \*knit 1, purl 1; repeat from \* across. Row 2: (wrong side) \*knit 1, purl 1; repeat from \* across. Switch to stockinette stitch but keep the first and last 7 stitches in seed stitch pattern: Row 1: (right side) K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, knit across until you reach the last seven stitches, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1 Row 2: (wrong side) K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, purl across until you reach the last seven stitches, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1 Continue alternating the two rows until the piece is the length desired. The shrug pictured measures 43 inches in length. The last 4 rows should be worked in seed stitch as well. Bind Off.

The shrug should resemble a long rectangle. To finish, fold in half as shown in the diagram:

43 inches Once folded, the top left and bottom left corner will meet and the top right and bottom right corner will meet. Sew 5.5 inches of the each of the side seams together, opposite the fold line. This will leave an opening for your arms. Fold line
