Midnight Ruby Pattern

Using size 4 circular needles Yarn used in photos: Midnight Sun (Red/black), Black. Cascade 220. Gauge: 10 stitches and 14 rows is equal to 2 inches square Starting with Black, CO 80 stitches, (without twisting) join in the round. Place marker to mark beginning of round. WRISTBAND Purl 1 round Knit 1 round Eyelet round: [K3, YO, K2tog] Knit 1 round Purl 1 round { If you like snug gloves you can add this decrease row. If you like looser hands then just Knit this round. Decrease row: (K7, K2tog) repeat to end of round.} Switch to Red/Black yarn.
HANDSECTION
Knit 7 rounds. Start Thumb gusset: Knit to 1 st from the end of round (marker) place another marker here so you have 1 stitch between the 2 markers. Slip marker(SM), M1, K1, M1, SM. Knit 2 rounds. Increase round: Knit to marker, SM, M1, K to marker, M1, SM. Knit 2 rounds. Continue to increase every $3^{\mathbf{rd}}$ round until you have 11 stitches between markers. On the next round, knit to $\mathbf{1}^{\mathbf{st}}$ marker, slip all stitches between markers onto waste yarn/holder. Using backwards loop cast on, CO 4 stitches over the gap. Knit 10 rounds. (You can add 2-3 rounds if you have longer hands, or like your gloves to hit higher.) Switch back to Black. Knit 1 round Purl 1 round Knit 3 rounds Purl 1 round. BO. THUMB Using size 4 circular (or double points depending on preference) Slip waste yarn stitches onto needle, and pick up 4-6 stitches over top of gap (I used 5 so my thumb was not super tight. Arrange stitches on circular for magic loop (or onto double points). Knit 6 rounds, BO. Weave in ends.
If you would like a lacier ruffle cuff, try this:
WRIST RUFFLE MOD Purl 1 round Knit 2 rounds Eyelet round: [K3, YO, K2tog] repeat to end of round. Knit 2 rounds Eyelet round: [K3, YO, K2tog] repeat to end of round. Knit 2 rounds Decrease round: K2tog all the way to end of round. Knit 1 round Note: The eyelet wrist band was designed so that a red ribbon, or leather cording could be woven through to cinch at the wrist. This is only needed if you like looser hands on your mitts. If you make the hand section snug, there is no need, except to be decorative.
