Dishcloth in Mosaic #2
If you haven't done Mosaic Knitting before, I recommend a little research before you try it, although it isn't hard at all. I have a free pattern on Ravelry called Dishcloth in Mosaic (orange and purple in the picture) which goes into a lot of detail on how to do it and there are numerous excellent online sources. This is just basically a written out pattern. It is based on Barbara G. Walker's Mosaic Design # 102 from her book Mosaic Knitting (which is an excellent resource). She uses charts but I prefer everything all written out. This pattern is a little different from others I've written out in that it is in stockinette (that is, knit on the right side and purl on the back with a garter stitch (all knit on both sides) border.

This is always done purlwise, which means the needl is facing the new stitch as if you were going to purl it. wyib with yarn in back This means that when you slip a stitch purlwise, your yarn needs to be in the back (or on the side farthest away from you). Your yarn will be in the same position it would normally be if you were going to knit the next stitch instead of slipping it. wyif with yarn in front This meas that whn yousp astitch ulwis, yourar ndstobe intefrnt (ornth id nearest tyou. Notes:
Odd number rows are the right side, even number rows are the wrong side In other words, if you are knitting an odd number row, you should be looking at the right side Stitches on the front (right) side are slipped wyib (with yarn in back). Stitches on the back (wrong) side are slipped wyif (with yarn in front). You will not be cutting either yarn until you are completely done using it. Instead, carry it up the side of the work (my Dishcloth in Mosaic has detailed explanations and pictures on how to do this or there are many explanations online). I highly recommend using stitch markers 3 in on each side to make it clear where your garter stitch borders are located. I also use them after the initial k1 (on right side rows) and after each pattern repeat. I'll write out what I mean in the first row instructions.
