Picture yourself in a boat on a river with tangerine trees and marmalade skies.. This sock was inspired by The Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. It is full of colour and dream like images. It reminds me of the yarn induced high I feel when I walk into my LYS and stumble upon a new shipment of hand dyed yarn!

Cuff... Using MC loosely CO 72 sts. Join in the round and work p1, k2 ribbing for 20 rounds or 1.5 inches. Leg.. Knit 3 rounds then begin working the diamond pattern. Continue knitting the diamond pattern for 3 full repeats and end with round 8 of 4th diamond pattern repeat.

Heel Flap...
The heel fap will be worked on the first 36 stitches in the contrasting colour. Do not cut the main colour, just leave it for now and begin working with the cc.

Knit 36 stitches turn, sll, p to end. Begin eye of partridge heel fap pattern Row l: \*sll, kl\* across, end with kl. Row 2: sll, p to end Row 3: sl2, \*kl, sll\* across, end with k2 Row 4: sll, p to end Continue in this pattern until you have worked eye of partridge heel pattern for 32 rows.
Turn Heel...
Row 1: sl1, k19, ssk, kl, turn Row 2: Sll1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn Row 3: sll, knit to one stitch before the gap, ssk, k1, turn Row 4: sll, purl to one stitch before the gap, p2tog, pl, turn Repeat rows 3 and 4 until all stitches have been worked. The last two rows will end with ssk and p2tog respectively, omitting the k1 or p1. There are 20 heel stitches. Knit across heel stitches. Cut the cc. Gusset... Go back to the start of the round where you last left your mc. With mc pick up one stitch at the top of the gusset, then 18 sts along the edge of the heel Hap. Knit the 20 sole sts. Pick up and knit 18 sts from along the edge of the heel fap. Pick up one more stitch at the top of the gusset to help close the gap. While keeping in pattern (round 9) work the instep sts.
Gusset Decrease...
Round 1: kl, ssk knit to 3 sts before the end of the needle, k2tog, kl, keep in pattern while working instep sts. Round 2: knit all sole sts, keep in pattern on instep sts Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until there are 36 sole sts, 72 sts total. Foot... Continue working the diamond pattern on the instep sts and knitting the sole sts until foot measures 2 inches from desired length, ending with either round 8 or round 16 of diamond pattern. Cut mc.
Toe...
Using the cc knit for 2 rounds. Round 1: \*k1, ssk, knit to last 3 sts on needle, k2tog, kl; repeat from\* for second needle. Round 2: knit Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until you have half of the original sts of your sock (36). Then work round 1 every round until you have 10 sts remaining on each needle. Graft sts using the kitchener st. Sew in ends and repeat....
