Row 3: \*Knit to 2 stitches before marker, k2tog, slip marker, repeat from \*, knit to end. If including Repeat Row 3 until no stitches remain between markers (32 stitches). Place 16 stitches on each of two US 9 dpns and finish seam with 3 needle bind-off. Weave in all ends. Knit back panel same as front.
Flap
With larger needles, pick up 33 stitches along top edge of back panel (they are identical, so you can choose either side). Knit 45 rows in garter stitch. Row 46: K2tog, knit to 2 sts before end, ssk. Row 47: Knit. Repeat Rows 46 and 47 twelve times. BO all stitches loosely and weave in ends.
Optional Strap
With size 3 needles, pick up 20 sts along top edge of center strip of purse. Knit every row until strap measures approximately 5o" long. BO all stitches and sew to opposite side of purse, being careful not to twist strap. Weave in ends. Felting Wash in hot water in washing machine 2-3 cycles until bag reaches the desired measurements.
Button Hole
With sharp scissors, cut a 1" horizontal buttonhole in front flap, about 1'" from bottom edge. Use tapestry needle and extra yarn to edge the buttonhole with blanket stitch. Sew button in place.
