Design Jenny Alderbrant \*Please read the whole pattern before you print it out and start knitting. To save the environment i suggest you only print the pages you need.
This is what you will need to knit a pair:
Yarn: Fingering 175-215 m/50 gr . Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, cerise and white. No more than 20-30 g of each color. Perhaps a little bit more for the main and heel color. Needles: Dpns or a long circular to knit in magic loop . size 2,5-3 mm. Depending on how tight you knit. Gauge: Approx 32 st/ 10 cm in stranded knitting with 2 colors. Scrapyarn in contrasting color for your heel. Tapestry needle for weaving in loose ends and to graft the tip of the toe and heel.
Abbreviations
St-stitch/stitches N-needle/needles k-knit p-purl yo-yarn over sl-slip 2tog-knit 2 st together as one ssk-slip 2 st(1 at a time kw) k same st together through back loop. \*Dst-Double stitch- Place yarn over right needle and slip next st purlwise.Pull the thread upwards and backwards. This creates a double st on the right needle. Put your finger on it to keep it in place and at the same time knit or purl the next st. \*Charts are read from right to left.
Cuff
Cast on 64 sts in red using double 0,5 mm size smaller needles you need to obtain gauge in stranded knitting. Approx 2-2,5 mm. Knit ribbing k1,p1 or k2,p2 until you are happy with the length of your cuff. Knit 1 row and increase to 72 st.
Follow chart 1
I decided on a german shortrow heel for thesesocks. Knit the heel with 1 size smaller needles in cerise . Heel is knit over 37 sts. This leaves 35 st on the front. \*Knit the sock according to chart 1 for the leg. On last row make sure you have st 36 and 72 on your back needle/s. Leave your mc here. Turn work. \*WS- Make a Double stitch(dst), purl all sts on the needle. Turn work. \*RS-Dst, knit to dst on previous row(do not knit this st) Turn work. \*Keep knitting(on RS) and purling(on WS) this way. Always to the dst on previous row and turning just before it until you have 12 dst on each side and 13 sts between them. \*When you have turned your work and made your 12th dst knit the 13 sts in the middle. \*Stay on the RS and knit the next(dst)together as one + 1st =11 sts left on heel side. All dst are knit or purled together as one when you get to them. Turn work \*Dst, Purl to 11 st left on Ws.Turn work. \*Dst, Knit to 10 st left on RS. Turn work Keep knitting(on RS) and purling(on WS) this way making a new dst after every turn and knitting the dst together as 1 when you get to them. You should always k or p 1 st after the dst before you turn. \*Knit this way until all dst have been knit together accept 1. You should now be on the RS where you left your mc. \*Follow chart2 for foot and knit the last dst together when you get to it. Thesesocksisinswedishsize38-39andi think that is approx. 7,5-8,5. The toe of the socks are knitted in pattern color only and the decreases on the top should begin approx 4,5 cm before the sock'sfull length. If you are knitting a smaller size sock than above you may need to begin decreasing for the toe before the chart is finished. You can also make decreases on every row directly. If you need to increase the length you can add some rows in toe color before decreasing. Toe The decreases at the top are made in purple like this: \*Make sure you have 36 st on each side. Row 1: \*k1, ssk, k to last 3 st of the front, 2tog, k1\* Repeat\*-\* on the back. Row 2: Knit \*Repeat these 2 rows a total of 4 times. \*After that you repeat row 1 until you reached desired length or until you have approx 16-24 st left. \*Graft the top together using kitchener stitch for a beautiful finish. (There are great videos available on youtube)
For a rounder toe you can change the ssk and 2tog on the last 2-3 rows to sssk and 3tog. Pull the thread through the remaining st and tighten.
\*Weave in all loose ends. \*Knit one more sock. Block the socks by soaking them or spraying them with water and leaving them to dry in the shape you want. Good luck!
