Abbreviations:
k2tog - knit 2 stitches together p2tog - purl 2 stitches together ssk - slip slip knit (slip 2 stitches knitwise and knit together through the back loop) p2tbl - purl 2 stitches together through the back loop pm - place marker c4f: Move two stitches to cable needle. Hold cable needle to FRONT of work. K next two stitches. k stitches from cable needle c4b: Move two stitches to cable needle. Hold cable needle to BACK of work. K next two stitches. k stitches from cable needle. c3f: Move 1 stitch to cable needle. Hold cable needle to FRONT of work. K next 2 stitches. Cable Pattern:
Worked over four rounds. Rounds 1,2 and 4: \*p2 k4\* twice, p2, k8, \*p2 k4\* four times, p2, k8, \*p2 k4\* twice Round 3 (cable round): p2, c4f, p2, k4, p2, c4f, c4b, p2, k4, p2, c4b, \*p2 k4\* twice p2, c4f, c4b, \*p2 k4\* twice. Work k2 p2 rib for 10 rows (work more if longer cuff desired) Leg: Space stitches so there are 36 stitches at the front of the leg and 32 stitches at the back of the leg. Work rounds 1 - 4 of cable pattern 14 times. Work round 1 only once more. Turn work ready to work heel. Heel Flap: The Heel is worked over the 32 stitches at the back of the leg, knitting back and forth in ROws, rather than rounds. Rearrange stitches so these stitches are on one needle. Place remaining 36 stitches on holder or on unused needles. Work 32 stitches as follows Row l: k3, p7, k2, p8, k2, p7, k3 Row 2: k3, sll, \*kl, sll\* three times, p2, c4f, c4b, p2, \*k1, sll\* three times, k1, K3 Row 3 and all odd rows: k3, p to last 3 stitches, k3 Row 4: k3, \*k1, sl\* to last 3 stitches, k3 Row 6: k3, \*sll, k1\* five times, c3f, c3b, \*sll, kl\* five times, k3 Row 8: as row 4 Row 10: k3, \*sll k1\* five times, sll, c2f, c2b, sll, \*kl, sll\* five times, k3 Row 12: as row 4 Row 14: k3, \*sll, k1\* to last 3 stitches, k3 Row 16: as row 4
Turning the Heel:
R1: p18, p2tog, p1, turn R2: sll, k5, ssk, kl, turn R3: sll, p6, p2tog, p1, turn R4: sll, k7, ssk, kl, turn Rep rows 3 and 4, increasing the number of stitches before decrease by 1 until all stitches have been worked. Second to last row: Sll, p to last 2 stitches, p2tog, turn. Last row: sll, k to last 2 stitches, ssk, DO NOT TURN
Gusset and Foot:
For gusset instep, the cable pattern will be worked over 36 stitches as follows R1, R2, R4: \*p2 k4\*twice, p2, k8, p2, \*k4 p2\* R3 (cable round): p2, c4f, p2, k4, p2, c4f, c4b, p2, k4, p2, c4b, p2 Set up round: Pick up and knit 16 stitches along the lefft edge of the heel flap. Place Marker. Work Instep stitches (36) in pattern starting with round 2. Place Marker. Pick up and knit 16 stitches along the right edge of heel flap. R1: k to 3 stitches before first marker, K2tog, k1, slip marker, work instep pattern to second marker, kl, ssk, k to end of round R2: k to first marker, work pattern to second marker, k to end of round Repeat these two rows until 68 stitches remain (32 sole stitches, 36 instep stitches) Cable Car Sock Pattern ?
