Special Stitches
Bpsc (Back post single crochet): Insert hook from back to front around post of stitch, yo, pull through, bring up even with last stitch completed, yo, pull through 2 loops (1 loop on hook) Join new color with sC: Loop yarn on hook and insert into designated stitch. Yo and draw through, you have 2 loops on hook. Yo and draw through. You have joined the yarn with a sc. Htr - half treble crochet - yo twice, insert hook in next st and draw up a loop (4 loops on hook), yo and draw through two loops (3 loops on hook), yo and draw through remaining loops (1 loop on hook) Tr3tog - treble crochet 3 stitches together Note: Ch-3 at the beginning of a round counts as a dc.
Instructions
Hexagon (make 7)
Use photo for color placement. (For Round 3, I made 2 with B, 2 with D, 2 with E, and 1 with F.) ch 4, join with sl st to form ring. Ch 3, 11 dc in ring, sl st to top of beg ch-3. (12 dc) Round 2: Ch 1, bpsc in each st around. Sl st to first bpsc, fasten off. (12 bpsc) Round 3: Join B (D, E, F) with sl st in any st of Round 2. Ch 3, 4 dc in same st. (Sk 1 st, 5 dc in next st) x 5, sk 1 st, sl st to top of beg ch-3. Fasten off. (30 dc) Round 4: Join C with sc in 3rd dc of any 5-dc group. Sc in same st and in next 4 st, (3 sc in next st, sc in next 4 st) around, ending with sc in same st as beg sc. Sl st to beg sc, fasten off. (42 sc) Join 7 hexagons as pictured. I used slip st through the back loops on the back side, or you could whip stitch or single crochet.
Border
Round 1: With flat side of any hexagon facing, join C with sc in right corner stitch. (Sc in next 6 st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 6 st, sc2tog over last st of this and first st of next hexagon, sc in next 6 st, 2 sc in next st) around, ending with sc in same st as beg sc. Fasten off. (138 st) Round 2: Join A with sc in last st of Round 1. Sc in next 9 st, (hdc in next st, dc in next 2 st, htr in next st, tr in next st, tr3 tog over next 3 st, tr in next st, htr in next st, dc in next 2 st, hdc in next st, sc in next 10 st) around, sl st to beg sc. (126 st) Round 3: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next st, (hdc in next 3 st, dc in next 3 st, tr in next st, 3 tr in next st, tr in next st, dc in next 3 st, hdc in next 3 st, sc in next 7 st, sc2tog, sc in next 8 st, hdc in next 3 st, dc in next 3 st, tr in next st, 3 tr in next st, tr in next st, dc in next 3 st, hdc in next 3 st, sc in next 16 st) x 2, omitting last 2 sc, sl st to beg sc. (132 st) Round 4: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next st, (hdc in next 3 st, dc in next 3 st, tr in next 2 st, 5 tr in next st, tr in next 2 st, dc in next 3 st, hdc in next 3 st, sc in next 16 st) x 4, omitting last 2 sc, sl st to beg sc. Fasten off. (148 st) Round 5: Join B with sl st in third dc of any corner, ch 3. 4 dc in same st. Dc in next 10 st, hdc in next 16 st, dc in next 10 st, 5 dc in next st) x 4, omitting last corner.
