SET 3 TENSION

HELMET

LEFT EAR FLAP

Using 3.25mm needles and thumb method cast on 5sts. Working in g-st (throughout) work 5 rows. Next Row: (Buttonhole Row). K2, yfwd, K2tog, K1. Work 6 [6:8:8] rows more. Work 2 rows inc 1 st at each end of 1st row.7sts. Work 9 [9:13:13] rows inc 1 st at each end of next and every foll 4th row. 13[13:15:15]sts. Cont without shaping until Ear Flap measures 6 [6:7:8]cm, ending with a ws row. Leave these 13 [13:15:15]sts on a stitch holder.

RIGHT EAR FLAP

Work as given for Left Ear Flap omitting buttonhole.

Main Section.

Using 3.25mm needles cast on 8 [10: 10:11]sts, with rs facing, knit across 13 [13:15:15]sts left on a stitch holder for Left Ear Flap, cast on 25 [27:29:33]sts, with rs facing, knit across 13 [13:15: 15]sts left on a stitch holder for Right Ear Flap and cast on 8 [10:10:11]sts. 67 [73:79:85]sts. Work 9 rows more in g-st. Change to 4mm needles and working in st-st (throughout) cont until Main Section measures 9 [10:11:12]cm, ending with a ws row. Shape Crown. Using 3.25mm needles and thumb method cast on5sts. Work in g-st until Strap is of sufficient length to go from edge of Bonnet to chin, allowing for an overlap for button fastening, ending with a rs row. Cast off knitways.

Right Strap

TO MAKE UP

Join crown seam for 3 [3:4:4]cm. Fold onto ws at Picot Row and sew loosely in position. With rs facing, using 3.25mm needles pick up and knit 34 [38:42:46]sts evenly along row ends. Knit 1 row. Cast off knitways. Sew on straps. Sew on button. See ball band for pressing and care instructions.
