Using orange yarn

To begin ch 4 and join with a sl into 1st ch from end to make a loop. You could use a magic circle here if you prefer. Row 1: dc 14 st into the loop sl into the first st to join Row 2: ch 3 then dc x2 into every st in the round. (28st) sl to join Row 3: ch 3 the dc round sl to join Row 4:ch 3 then DC into first 3 st the DC x2 into 4th st the repeat pattern (dc x3 dc x2) to end SI to join Row 5: ch 3 then dc in every stich to round sl to join Row 6: Ch 3 then dc into 4 st the double x2 into 5th st then repeat pattern for the round Sl to join Change to black yarn Row 7: ch 1 then sc round sl to join Change to white Row 8: ch 3 dc round sp to join Row 9: ch 3 dc into 3 stich then dc x 2 into 4 st, dc next 3 and dc x 2 reapet pattern to end sl to join Row 10: ch 3 and dc round Row 11: ch 3 dc x2 in 1st st and then dc 25 st (this should be half way around, don't panic if not just work to around half way) DC x2 into st then dc to end sl to join Change back to black Row 12: ch 1 and sc for round sl to join Chahgebackto Bow13:dc At this stage check your width. If you still need the blanket to be wider then continue with the following pattern. If your blanket is wide enough then from here in for every row ch 3 the dc for round and sl to join, ignoring the increase dc x 2 Row 14: ch3 2x dc then dc in next 36 st ( or until halfway) then 2x dc in st 37 and then dc to end sl to join Row 15: ch 3 dc round If you need wider blanket repeat row 14/15 for increase until you are happy with width Row: 16- 26 ch 3 dc round sl to join Row 27; change to black ch 1 sc round sl to join Row 28:- 32 change to white ch3 dc round sl to join Row 33: change to black ch 1 sc round sl to join Row 34 to 45: change to orange ch 3 dc each round Note if you want a longer blanket change the number or rows in the orange to 15/16 and the white to 6 to even out the colors Row 46; change to black ch 1 sc round sl to join Row 47:- 51 change to white ch3 dc round sl to join Row 52: change to black ch 1 sc round sl to join Row 53 to 55: change to orange ch 3 dc each round When you are happy with the length then finish off the row.

Orange

Chain 25 in 3rd st from end dc into the back of the st (this is what creates the rib effect) dc into the back across the row at the end of the row ch 3 turn and repeat dc into the backofthest. Repeat this pattern for 24 rows Fin 1: Chain 21 in 3rd st from end dc into the back of the st as with the tail dc into the back across the row at the end of the row ch 3 turn and repeat dc into the back of the st. Repeatfor20rows

I made the 2nd fin damaged like the Nemo lucky fin, you can make two the same or create a lucky fin as below

Lucky fin

Chain 21 in 3'd st from end dc into the back of the st as with the tail dc into the back across the row at the end of the row ch 3 turn and repeat dc into the back of the st. until the last 2 st where you decrease st ows decreasing at the end of the 2nd row only this gives the clown fish

Trim

Using black yarn sc into one side edge of the tail and fins. As this is the side, there will not be actual stitches to follow, but the dc does leave some obvious places to crochet into. At the end of the row change to white and sc back along the row. To stich the tail and fins gather them along the non-trimmed edge and stich into place.
