NOTESONTHESWEATER

This sweater is knitted from the top down without any seam, nor short rows, nor cut yarn on the body (from the cast on to the bind off of the hem). For that, we begin by knitting a shoulder tab (< saddle >), beginning on the neckline side. We pick up and knit a few stitches on a big side and we cast on stitches for the back neckline and the second shoulder tab, which is knitted now. We end by picking up and knitting stitches on the tow last big sides of tabs (set up rows S "Armholes"). This first step is detailed in a tutorial with photos, on page 26. The steps of the tutorial are labeled in the explanations "Shoulders" and "Armholes" with the keyword Tuto followed by # and a number, for example Tuto#1. The top of the sweater is knitted back and forth on a few rows in order to shape the front neckline and goes on in the round to the bottom. The sleeve caps are knitted together with the body, with increases every 2 rows, until we reach the separation of the sleeves and the body. The stithes for the sleeves are placed on waste yarn and the bottom of the body is knitted in the round, to the hem, which can be knitted flat, with two slits or in the round more classically. Sleeves are knitted in the round and ends with the same hem as the body, in theround. We pick up and knit stitches for the collar, which has the length you want: only 6 rows for a classical neckline, 2-3 inches for a high collar or 4-6 inches for a turtleneck. The collar is knitted in the round for turtle neck or forth and back with a henley neck. The explanations of the sleeve caps are long, these are available as charts from page 13 or as written explanations from page 2. They begin at the set up row (SU1) of the"Armholes"section and end at the separation of the body and the sleeves. On the last 8 rows, at the right of each sleeve cap chart, you have the simplified chart of the body (back or front) in order to identify the rows with the increases on the body and the sleeves or only on the body. If you print the pattern, remember to print only the pages that relate to the size you knit.

After the junction in round, we continue with increases on sleeves and then on the body, every 2 rows.
