→ The cuff consists of Rnds 1-20 and the mitten body of Rnds 21-79. → See Fig. 1 for casting on new thumb sts.

Above: Maple leaf Belorw: Elk horn variation (hence moose antlers)

With CC2, provisionally cast 60 sts. Join in a round and work Chart 1. On Rnd 40, mark thumb as follows: Rightthumb K 1, sl the next 11 sts to stitch holder, cast on 11 new sts and work in pattern to end of rnd. Left thumb K to last 13 sts of rnd, sl the next 11 sts to stitch holder, cast on 11 new sts and work in pattern to end of rnd. Continue to end of Rnd 79. Draw up rem sts.
Jhumb
Put the 11 sts from the holder onto a needle, pick up 13 sts (1 at each corner to close the gaps and 11 along the cast-on sts) = 24 sts. Rnd begins with the live sts from the mitten body. Work Chart 2A - Right Thumb or Chart 2B - Left Thumb. Adjust so that you have 6 sts on each needle. Then work Chart 3. Draw up rem sts.
9-cord Bind-Off
Undo the provisional cast-on and put the resultant 60 sts on dpns. With CC2, provisionally cast on 2 sts and work attached i-cord around the cuff. Graft.
