The pattern uses only simple stitches and increases. The only tricky thing is keeping track of where you are, since almost every row is different. It helps to think of the top side of the head and the bottom ribbed side separately, as such I've placed this character in between the top and the bottom for every row: · I worked the contrasting color using a circular intarsia technique. I didn't keep track of it - every whale has a different pattern of light color, so there's no messing it up! Uses 300-340 yards of DK weight yarn, on #3 needles. Finished whale is $26^{\prime\prime}$ long. Of course you could scale up and down as you please with different weight yarn.

Make sure to stuff while the opening is stilbig enough. And then right before closing, top off the tip of the tail. FINISHING:
· To add the characteristic bumps of the humpback whale, I used a doubled-up piece of yarn and a tapestry needle. I had the yarn poke up from inside, knotted it loosely against the body of the whale, and then ran the tail back into the body. Similar to doing a french knot, but you make a standard knot instead.
