Size: Adult (Male and Female) 21''- 23"
Materials:
1 ball each KnitPicks Palette, White, Black, Silver, Serrano, Sky, Cyan and Cotton Candy (You will use only parts of each color. There will be yarn left over from each ball.) One 16" #3 circular needle, four #3 DPNs (or size needed to obtain gauge), stitch marker, and tapestry needle Gauge: 32 stitches and 32 rounds = 4" using #3 needles.
Abbreviations:
K2TOG = Knit two stitches together. SSK = Slip one stitch, then slip the next. Insert left needle into the front loops of the slipped stitches and knit them together from this position .
Instructions:
With circular needle, CO 136 sts using Silver. Join to work in round, placing stitch marker and being careful not to twist stitches. Knit seven rounds corrugated rib (see CHART A) using White for knit sts and Silver for purl sts. Increase round: Using White, inc to 168 sts (knit 4 sts, then, inc every 4th st evenly to last 4 sts. Knit last 4 sts). This is round 1 of CHART B. Follow CHART B (twice per round) for 42 rounds. Decrease rounds: Next round : (round 43) Using White, dec evenly after every 5th st (144 sts). Next dec round: Using Cotton Candy, dec 19 sts evenly in round, to obtain a total of 125 sts for the round. This is round 1 of CHART C. Hat top: Follow CHART C to end, having a total of 5 decrease panels. \*\* Round begins with the stitch just to the right of the line drawn down the center of the chart as opposed to the far right. NOTE: To dec. top, K2TOG, and then SSK two sts immediately after that on decrease rounds. Center line running down through the chart marks the round beginning as well as the center sts between dec. sts. Knit last six sts for 5 rounds, cut yarn leaving a tail several inches long. Move all sts from needles to tapestry needle, and pull tightly. Secure from the inside. Finishing: Using White, duplicate st colums (completing game board squares). See cover photo. Tie and weave in or trim all color change ends at beginning and ends of rounds as well as duplicate st ends. Wash and block to fit. KnitPicks Palette colors:
