Ruffled Sleeveless Sweater

Note: Stitch count at end of row includes the turning chain. On Rows 1 - 4, work the first st into the base of the turning chain. Begin at the neckline, chain 31. : Sc in second ch from hook and in each chain across row; ch 3, turn. (30 sc Row 2: Dc in first 2 sc; \*2dc in next st, dc in next 3 sts; repeat from \* 6 times ending with 2dc in top of turning chain; ch 3, turn. (39 sts) Row 3: Dc in first 3 sts, \*2 dc in next st, dc in next 4 sts; repeat from \* 6 times; 2 dc in top of turning chain, ch 3, turn. (48 sts) Row 4: Dc in first 3 sts, \*2 dc in next st, dc in next 4 sts; repeat from \* 8 times ending last repeat with 3 dc and 2 dc in top of turning chain; ch 3, turn. (59 sts) Note: On Rows 5 and 6, the first two and last two double-crochet stitches are worked into the top of the previous row stitches not into the front loops. This creates a stable edge to therows. Ruffle Row 5: Dc in same st as ch 3, dc in next st; working in front loop (the back loop is used on Row 6), \*skip next st, work shell (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next st, repeat from \* 26 times; end 1 dc in last st, and 1 dc in top of turning chain, ch 3, turn. (27 shells) Note: Both Row 5 and Row 6 are worked into the top of the Row 4 stitches. Divide for fronts and back - Row 6: 1 dc in first two sts then fold the ruffle row slightly to the back; Work treble st in front loop at the base of the Row 5 ruffle until there are 9 trebles (front sts); ch 3 sts for underarm, skip 10 sts; work treble in 11th st and the following 16 sts (back sts); skip 10 sts, ch 3 sts for underarm; work treble in 11th st and in next 8 sts (front sts); end row with dc in last 2 sts and dc in top of turning ch; ch 3, turn. Note: Turning chain should now count as first 1 dc in the following rows. Row 7: Dc in each st and chain across row ending with 1 dc in top of turning ch, ch 3, turn. (46 sts) Rows 8, 9 & 10: Dc in each dc across row; ch 3, turn; except for Row 10: end and cut yarn leaving enough to weave end in. Top should measure about 2" down from underarm. Row 11 for a front opening: Join yarn at top left corner of front, work a row of sc down the front, 3 sc in the corner stitch, sc across the bottom stitches, 3 sc in the corner stitch, sc across the right front, working 2 or 3 buttonholes towards the top by working a ch 2 for the button loop, sc 2 sts in the corner and sc across the neckline. End off. Weave in yarn ends. Sew tiny buttons onto the left front.

Note: Stitch count at end of row includes the turning chain. Beginning at waist, ch 37. Row 1: Dc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across; ch 3, turn. (36 sts) Row 2: Work dc in 1st dc and in each st across ending with 2 dc in top of turning ch; ch 3, turn. (38 sts) Row 3: Repeat Row 2; ch 2, turn. (40 sts) Row 4: Work 1 row of hdc across end with 1 hdc in turning ch; ch 3, turn. Ruffle Row 5: Dc in same st as ch 3, dc in next st; working in front loop, \*skip next st, work shell (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next st, repeat from \* 17 times; end 1 dc in last st, and 1 dc in top of turning chain, ch 3, turn. (18 shells) Row 6: Dc in first dc then fold the ruffle row back, working in front loops of row 4 below, work 2 trebles in each st across, end row with 1 dc in last 2 sts and 1 dc in top of turning ch; ch 3, turn. n each stitch across ending row with a dc in top of turning chain; ch 3, turr Rows 8, 9 & 10: Repeat Row 7. Row 11 (right side): Dc in same stitch, \* sc in next st, skip 1 st, 5 dc in next st, skip 1 st; repeat from \* across row, ending with 3 dc in top of turning chain.
