Materials:
· 440 yards of a solid yarn (A) and 420 yards of a contrast yarn (B) \*Note\* you may need additional color (A) if you changethe size of the bag, or may want to purchase additional yardage to be safe. The bag pictured used all 440 yards. 24 inch circular size 10.5 needle dpns size 10.5 4 stitch markers (1 different from the other 3 to denote the beginning of the round) Tapestry needle to weave in the ends ? Waste yarn to mark stitches for finishing Button or toggle for the closure Gauge: 3.25 stitches and 5.5 rows to the inch pre- felting. Pre felted dimensions: $\mathbf{26^{\circ}}$ tall, $18.5^{\circ}$ wide, and ${\mathfrak{s}}^{\bullet}$ deep Felted dimensions: $14.5^{\circ}$ tall, $\mathbf{15^{\circ}}$ wide, and $\mathbf{2.25^{\circ}}$ deep Results may vary depending on yarn. $\mathbf{k}=\mathbf{k}\mathbf{n}\mathbf{i}\mathbf{t}$ $\mathbf{k2togtbl}=\mathbf{knit}\mathbf{\delta}2$ together through the back loop $\mathbf{sl1}=\mathbf{slip}\ \mathbf{1}$ stitch as if to purl wyif $=$ with yarn to the front of the work Stitch Pattern: Rnds 1 and 2: With (A) knit Rnds 3-7: With (B) $\bf{*}_{k4}$ sll1, (k5, sl1) to the last 4 stitches before the marker, knit 4. Slip the marker and (sl1, k5)2, sl1\*. Slip the marker. Repeat from \* to\* Rnds 8 and 9: With (A) knit Rnds 10 -14: With (B) $\bf{\sigma}^{*}\bf{k}\bf{1}$ , sl1,(k5, sl1) to the last stitch before the marker, k1. Slip the marker and (sl1, k5)2, $\mathbf{sl1^{*}}$ Slip the marker. Repeat from \* to\* Note: Stitches are slipped purl wise and with the yarn held to the back of the work. Carry the yarn not in use loosely up the side of the bag. These 14 rounds complete the stitch pattrn and areworked atotalof 9repeats n the bag pictured.
Base:
With the circular needles and (A) cast on 75 stitches. Working back and forth knit 27rows.Do not turn at the end of the $27^{\mathrm{th}}$ row.Place a marker,then pick up 13 stitches along the short side of the rectangle, place a marker and pick up 75 stitches along the cast on edge, place a marker and pick up 13 stitches along the short side, place a beginning of round marker. Join in the round and knit 4 rounds. Begin stitch pattern and continue in pattern until 9 pattern repeats have been completed or the desired length. Change to (A) and knit 4 rounds. On the last round, run a small piece of waste yarn through the36,37, and $38^{\mathbf{th}}$ stitches on one long side (this is the center of the bag and will be picked up later for a closure loop), and with 2 other pieces of waste yarn, run the yarn through the 11 center stitches of the 13 side stitches to mark for the handles. Continue with an attached I cord bind off as follows: At the beginning of the round, using a cable cast on, cast on 3 stitches $\ast\mathbf{K}2$ , k2togtbl, slip these 3 stitches back onto the left needle individually\* repeat from \* to \* around. This will form an attached I cord bind off and a firmer finish to the top of the bag.
Loop closure:
With a size 10.5 dpn pick up the 3 marked center stitches from the inside of the bag. Turn the work so the right side of the bag is facing. With either color knit these 3 stitches do not turn. Slide the stitches to the other end of the dpn, keeping the yarn to the back, and knit. Continue in this manner until the I cord is 5 inches long. Bind off and attach to the center of the stitches just picked up on the inside of the bag. With the dpns, pick up the 11 marked strap stitches, picking them up from the inside of the bag. Turn so the right side of the bag is facing, and with color (A) Row 1: Knit, turn Row 2: wyif slip the first 3 stitches individually, k5, wyif slip the last 3 stitches individually,turn Repeat these 2 rows until strap is 38 inches or desired length, ending with a row 1. Being careful not to twist the strap, attach it to the 11 stitches, from the inside) on the other side of the bag. Attach by grafting or working a 3 needle bind off. Weave in all ends and felt. Block Attach a button for the closure.
