You will need
5.5mm circular needles 3.5mm circular needles Two stitch markers 400 yards any worsted weight wool (tested with Rowan Creative Focus Worsted and Cascade220)
Instructions
Using 5.5mm needles, cast on 461 stitches loosely (l use long-tail cast on, starting with a \~7 metre tail) le knots in the final repeat so that the last stich in rows 9 and 17 are a knit)
Alternate rows 1-31: If you don't like charts, see the full row descriptions on page 4. Change to 3.5mm needles (don't be tempted to stay on large needles or the two sections willbe very distorted) Row 32 (wrong side): Knit 149. Wrap the next stitch by bringing the yarn forward between your needles, slip the next stitch purlwise, pass the yarn to the back and slip the wrapped stitch back onto the left needle. Turn and place a marke Row 33: Work 29 stitches as follows: K1B (insert needle into the stitch below and knit it), [P1, K1B]. Wrap next stitch by bringing the yarn forward between your needles, slip 1 purlwise, pass the yarn back between the needles then slip the stitch back onto the left need. Turn and place a marker Row 34: Knit to the marker, remove it and knit 8. Wrap next stitch and turn, place the marker again Row 35: K1B, [P1, K1B] to the marker. Remove marker. Work eight stitches by [P1, K1B] four times. Wrap next stich and turn. Replace marker Repeat row 34 & 35 so that 8 extra stitches are included each row, until all stitches are included. This will happen on a knit (wrong side) row. Work two more rows (ie the next row: K1B, [P1, K1B] to end, then final row: Knit) Cast off in rib as row 35 (ie K1B, P1)
Finishing
Weave in the ends of the yarn. To block, soak it in lukewarm water then gently squeeze out excess water in a towel. Lay it out and, if you have blocking wires, thread them through the cast off edge. Pin out the points so they lay flat and tweak the knots so they sit to the front of the work. Let it dry completely then enjoy!
