Neptune Monkey

The Knitting Goddess British wool and nylon (sock yarn): approx.20-25g (80-100m) for the tail, less then 5g (20m) for the crown: Needles and Notions: For Tail: 2.5 mm (US 1 1/2) dpns or circular/s depending on your chosen method of working in the round. (Or size required to achieve gauge.) insert RH needle through right leg of stitch one row below the next stitch on LH needle. Lift this stitch onto LH needle, knit through front loop
slip next stitch as if to knit, slip second stitch as if to purl, insert LH needle into slipped stitches from left to right and knit them together knit into front loop and then into back loop of next stitch, thus increasing one new stitch (make 1 with left lean) from the front, lift the horizontal strand between sts with the left needle. Knit through back of loop (make 1 with right lean) from the back, I ift the horizontal strand between sts with the left needle. Neptunes Tail
With tail colour, 2.5mm needles and using your favourite stretchy cast on method, cast on 68 sts. Join in the round being careful not ot twist. Place marker (PM) to indicate start of round. Work 5 rows in st st. Next round: \*k2, p2; rep to end of round. Rep last round 5 times in total. Next Row: k10, k1l, \*k8, k1r; rep from \* to last 10 stitches, k10, k1r. (76 sts)(last k1r will be made into stitch below first stitch of new round) Knit one round. Bum expansion Start of round marker will now also indicate end of tummy stitches and start of bum expansion. Round 1 and each following alternate round: Knit Round 2: k2, k1l, k1, (sl 1, k1) 13 times, k1r, k2, knit to end of round. Round 4: k2, k1l, k2, (sl 1, k1) 13 times, k1, k1r, k2, knit to end of round. Round 6: k2, k1l, k3, (sl 1, k1) 13 times, k2, k1r, k2, knit to end of round. Round 8: k2, k1l, k4, (sl 1, k1) 13 times, k3, k1r, k2, knit to end of round. Round 10: k2, k1l, k5, (sl 1, k1) 13 times, k4, k1r, k2, knit to end of round. (2 sts) Cut yarn and thread through remaining 2 sts to fasten off. Darn in the ends of the tail fins. Use the ends created at tail split to carefully stitch along central

line of tail. (see photo below-apologies for bad quality!) Stuff each flipper with some toy stuffing.
Neptunes Crown
Headband: With Yellow held double and 2 x 2.5 mm (US 1 1/2 ) dpns work i-cord as follows: Cast on 4 sts. \*Slide sts to opposite end of dpn, pull yarn across back of sts and with second dpn, k4; rep from \* until 8 rows of i-cord have been worked. Use a short piece of scrap yarn or small lockable marker to mark first stitch on needle.\*\* Now rep from \* to \*\*, until 48 rows of i-cord have been worked. Markers will sit on first stitch of rows 8, 16, 24, 32 and 40. Cast off.
Prongs:
\*With 2.5 mm (US 1 1/2) dpns and Yellow (one strand only) Pick up and knit one stitch from right leg and one stitch from left leg of stitch indicated by first marker on headband. Slide sts to opposite end of dpn, pull yarn across back of sts and with second dpn, k1, kfb. (3 sts). Now work 20 rows of i-cord in same manner as headband. Cut yarn and thread through stitches to fasten off. Darn end down through centre of i-cord. Now darn in tail of i-cord, first neaten the area where sts were picked up then darn tail into the headband. Tie a knot at top of i-cord to complete prong. (See photo below) Repeat from \* to \* positioning each prong as indicated by the markers of the headband. To complete: Neatly stitch cast on and cast off ends of headband i-cord together to complete crown. Darn in ends.
