Needles and Notions
US 8 (5mm) circular needle, at least 32in, 80cm long OR A set of US 8 double pointed needles Tapestry needle Stitch marker
Gauge
Note: You may wish to obtain a larger or smaller gauge depending on desired size of gloves. 15 sts and 22 rnds measure 4in x 4in, 10cm x 10cm in stockinette stitch.
Special Stitches:
Vikkel Braid
(Visit http://dailyskein.wordpress.com/2008/08/23/ vikkel-braid/ for a picture tutorial) M1 and \*place stitch just made on LH needle. Knit into back loop of second stitch on LH needle but do not drop stitches from needle. K into front loop of first st on LH needle and drop both loops off needle. Rep from \* to end of rnd and slip last st of rnd over first st of next rnd.
Lace Pattern (6 sts and 9 rnds)
Rnds 1, 3, 5, 7, & 9: Knit. Rnds 2 & 6: (K1, k2tog, yo, k3) around. Rnds 4 & 8: (K3, yo, ssk, k1) around. Not familiar with an abbreviation? I follow the CYC standards, found at http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/knit.html
Instructions for Mitt (Make 2)
Cast on 24 sts, distribute sts evenly on needles, and join to work in the rnd. PM for beg of rnd. Knit 1 rnd. Work Vikkel Braid across next rnd. Work Rnds 1-9 of Lace Pattern once.
Work Vikkel Braid across next rnd. K 3 rnds. Next Rnd: M1, pm, k to end of rnd. Knit 1 rnd. Next Rnd: M1, K to marker, m1, slip marker, k to end. Knit 1 rnd. Rep last 2 rnds twice more. K 1 rnd more. Next Rnd: M1, K to marker, m1, k to end. 33 sts total. Knit every rnd until glove measures desired length to crook of thumb (sample has 8 rnds worked). Dividefor Thumb Cast off first 9 sts of rnd, knit to end of rnd. 24 sts. Continue to knit every rnd (do not cast on sts over thumb unless more “give" is desired) until glove measures approx. 1in, 2.5cm from thumb division, or approx .5in, 1.25cm shorter than desired total length. Work 1 rnd of Vikkel Braid. K 1 rnd. Cast off all sts loosely. Weave in ends and block, if desired. Pattern and images @2010 Ashley Knowlton.
