Olan is a new, adventurous knitter, and this is designed for him: an easy garter stitch triangle shaped with decreases and highlighted with a color-striped border. Size US 5 (3.75mm) 26" circular needle, 0r size needed to obtain gauge. NOTIONS 9 Stitch markers Yarn needle
GAUGE
In garter stitch,24 sts and 44 rows = 4" after blocking. While gauge is not crucial, it will affect the finished size of the shawl and the amount of yarn used.

SHAWL
With color B, CO 180 sts. Knit 2 rows. Change to color A and work set-up row, placing markers as follows: K5, pm, k4, pm, k4,pm, k8, pm, k8,pm, k12, pm, k16, pm, k24, pm, k40, pm, k to end of row. Knit one row. Work the Slipped Stitch Sequence as follows: Work 3 repeats, working rows 1 & 2 in color B and Rows3&4incolorA. Work 2 repeats, working all rows in color A. Work 4 repeats, working Rows 1 &e 2 in color B and rows 3 & 4 in color A. Work 2 repeats, working all rows in color A. Work 4 repeats, working Rows 1 & 2 in color B and Rows3&4 incolor A. Keeping the continuity of the Slipped Stitch Sequence, work in color A until 4 sts remain. Remove stitch markers when appropriate as shawl decreases in width. Next row: Kl, k2tog, kl. Next row: K3tog. Fasten off yarn.
FINISHING
