Faerie Ring
This is a semi-circular shawl that works up quickly, measures about 72” long and 15” deep, is worked flat, and is worked in garter stitch and garter-based lace. The edging is adapted from a vintage pattern called English Lace, which originally had two repeats of the ring instead of just one. To narrow the edging I reduced the repeat to one ring. Materials: Size 8, 24" circular needle (to manage the large amount of sts in the later stages of the shawl) Fingering weight yarn in two colors (you decide which is MC and CC - I used a discontinued mohair/merino blend in brown [MC] and blue [CC]. You can always decide to knit the shawl in one color) Darning needle Blocking pins For shawl - CO 6 sts with MC. Continue as follows: Row 1 : Sl 1 pwise wyf, k2, yo twice, k to last 3 sts, yo twice, k3. Row 2 : Sl 1 pwise wyf, k2, (k1, p1) into double yo from the previous row, k to the next double yo, (k1, p1) into double yo from the previous row, k3. Continue as established, increasing four stitches every other row, until there are 204 sts in all, including selvedge stitches, ending with row 2. Break yarn and join CC. For Edging : CO 10 sts using the knitted method (see note 1 below) onto the right hand needle using CC. Repeat chart 34 times. On the 34" repeat, instead of knitting row 12, BO in purl. Finishing: Wash gently in lukewarm water and pin onto a clean rug, pinning out each point of the edging. Block into a semi-circle, as severely or as gently as you like. My shawl measures 15'” deep and 72" l1ong. Key to Chart Symbols: / : k2tog 0 : yo (blank) : k on rs, p on ws - : p on rs side, k on ws \*/ : (see note 2 below) ^ : sl 1, k2tog, psso

Notes: 1 : Knitted Cast On: Using CC, knit one shawl st and place st on left hand needle. Knit into st and place resulting st onto left hand needle. Repeat until there are 10 sts on left hand needle in CC. 2 : Casting Off in Lace Pattern : At the end of each rs row, k the last st of the edging together with 1 st from shawl - you'll be knitting 1 st of CC together with 1 st of MC, and essentially eating up all the shawl sts with the narow lace edging.
