Faerie Ring
This is a semi-circular shawl that knits up quickly, measures about 72?" long and 15′ deep, is worked flat, and is in garter stitch and garter-based lace. The edging is adapted from a vintage pattern called English Lace, which originally had two repeats of the ring instead of just one. To narrow the edging I reduced the repeat to one ring. The sizing is pretty flexible - you can make it as big or as small as you like by changing the needle size or working more or less of the repeats. Note: if you do change the size, make sure that the final number of stitches is a multiple of six, so that you can complete whole repeats of the lace edging while binding Off.
Materials:
Size 8, 24” circular needle (to manage the large amount of sts in the later stages of the shawl) ·Fingering weight yarn in two colors - 300-400 yds of MC, 100-150 yds of CC ·Darning needle ·Blocking pins For shawl - CO 6 sts with MC. Set Up Row: Sl 1 pwise wyf, (k 1 f&b) four times, k 1 Continue with remainder of shawl as follows (do not repeat Set Up Row): Row 1 : Sl 1 pwise wyf, k2, yo twice, k to last 3 sts, yo twice, k3. Row 2 : S1 1 pwise wyf, k2, (k1, p1) into double yo from the previous row, k to the next double yo, (k1, p1) into double yo from the previous row, k3. Continue as established, increasing four stitches every other row, until there are 204 sts in all, including selvedge stitches, ending with row 2. Break yarn and join CC. For Edging : CO 10 sts using the knitted method (see note 1 below) onto the right hand needle using CC. Repeat chart 34 times. On the 34th repeat, instead of knitting row 12, BO in purl. Finishing: Wash gently in lukewarm water and pin onto a clean rug, pinning out each point of the edging. Block into a semi-circle, as severely or as gently as you like.
