
DIMINISHING BUBBLE HAT
by boknits This lovely textured hat features a cable-like, but not cabled bubble pattern. The bubbles diminish towards the crown of the hat, creating a lovelystarburst. A quick knit in about half a skein of worsted, and it keeps you warm and stylish aswell! Sizes: S(child), M(woman),L(man or large-headed woman), head circumference 50cm/20", 55cm/22", 60cm/24" If you want to make smaller or larger sizes, you'd need thinner or thicker yarn and needles.
yarn:
The Uncommon Thread Lush Worsted (Worsted / 10 ply,80% Merino, 10% Nylon, 10% Cashmere, 210 meters / 100 grams) 1 skein Alternatives: madelinetosh MCN worsted, tosh chunky, tosh merino. Most aran/worsted yarns will suit.
gauge:
Washed and blocked: 16 st/28 rows at 10cm/4" in pattern in the round.
needles:
4.5 and 5.5mm/size 7 and 9 US, 40" circular needles; I used Addi Turbos.

1 stitch marker tapestry needle

HAT: swatch first to see if you get gauge, and if necessary go up or down a needle size, or change sizes of your yarn is thicker or thinner. Although gauge is not crucial, you do want your hat to end up the right Size... CO: CO 72(80,88) stitches with smaller needle. Connect in the round, careful not to twist. PM. Knit 10 rounds or your desired length in 2/2 rib. main: Change to big needle and incr 26(32,38) st to 98(112,126) st by incr for size S: \*(every 2, 3 st) \*, repeat until last 7 st, k7, (size M: \*every 2, 3) \*,size L: \*every 2, 2, 3 st\*, repeat until end of row.. next row: set-up for Bubble Pattern: \*k7, p7\*, repeat these 14 st until M. From here follow chart, starting at row 1.
FINISHING:
Cut yarn, and with tapestry needle thread yarn through last 7(8,9) st. Pull tightly, knot and weave in ends.
