Materials:
Size F crochet hook Yarn in red and tan (I used Red Heart and I Love This Yarn) Safety eyes Small amount of black felt Tacky glue
Both pieces are worked in a continuous spiral.

Slip stitch (SS) in 3rd ch from hook (i.e., skip 2 ch so there will be a little loop for your pepper to hold maracas). Working back toward the body, SS in next 9 ch. SS in same st as beginning sc. Sc in next 9 st. ch 12, skip 2 ch and SS in next 10 ch. SS in same st as previous sc. Sc in next ll st to finish round. 21-27) Sc in each stitch around. Make sure on the first round (r21) that you sc behind the arms so they stick out Place safety eyes 2 or 3 rows above the arms and stuff your pepper ? 28) [dec, sc] around - 14 sc 29) dec around - 7 sc Finish off, weave in end. (I just leave the bottom end tucked inside the body)
For the sombrero:
You can make the sombrero as wide as you want; all you have to do is eliminate an increase row or two. 1) Begin with a magic circle into which 7 sc are made 2) Inc in each stitch around - 14 sc 3) [inc, 1 sc] around - 2l sc 4-8) Sc in each stitch around 9) In back loops only, sc around 10) [inc, 2 sc] around - 28 sc 11) [inc, 3 sc] around - 35 sc 12) [inc, 4 sc] around - 42 sc 13) [inc, 5 sc] around - 49 sc 14) [inc, 6 sc] around - 56 sc 15) [inc, 7 sc] around - 63 sc 16) [inc, 8 sc] around - 70 sc 17) [inc, 9 sc] around - 77 sc 18) [inc, 10 sc] around - 84 sc 19-21) Sc in each stitch around Finish off, weave in ends. Cut shapes for moustache out of black felt and glue them to your pepper right below the safety eyes. You can sew or glue the hat onto the pepper's head, but I leave mine loose. I made maracas out of oval-shaped beads that I found at Hobby Lobby by breaking a toothpick in half and fitting the pieces into the holes of the beads.
