Material:

rests of 4ply cotton in main colour (MC) and one or two contrasting colours (CC) · 3mm crochet hook ·stuffing Feel free to replace the yarn by whatever you have handy.

Abbreviations:

· ch: chain ● slst: slip stitch · F: front loop only slst · sc: single crochet MC: main colour CC: contrasting colour

Pattern:

Body:

This part is done in F. If you prefer to avoid slip stitches, use sc. Ch 15 in MC, slst15 into the back bumps of the chains, then F 15 back along the front of the chains. Continue working F in spirals until the piece is forms a square when you put it fat in front of you. Mark the middle of the top and work F to the marker. Now fold the piece and crochet the sides together. Stuff before closing the seam. A tetraeder results, that is the seam is orthogonal to the beginning chain.

Legs (2x):

The last chain is always used as a turning chain. Work slst into the back bumps of the chains. In CC, ch 20, slst 3, ch 4, slst 3, ch 4, slst 19.

Feather:

The last chain is always used as a turning chain. Work slst into the back bumps of the chains. In CC, \*ch 6, slst 5, repeat from \* twice more.

Beak:

This part is workedin spiral rounds in sc. If you prefer slip stitches, increase by working once into the front loop and once into the back loop of the same stitch. 1. round: sc 5 into a magic loop 2. round: sc 5 3. round: double all stitches 4. round: sc 10 5. round: double every secon stitch 6. round: sc 15

Eyes (2x):

In CC, ch 3, slst 1 into the first chain.

Finishing:

Sew or knot in beak, eyes, feather and legs. Pull all yarn ends inside the body. If you want to use the bird as a hanging ornament, tie in a loop of thread. Copyright by Tanja Osswald
