Consummate V's Hat by Noriko Ho

This pattern was inspired by Trogdor! Let's go put some Consummate V's on this bad boy! This hat is a quick and easy knit that would make a great first lace project. I hope you enjoy knitting this! :o) This hat comes in two sizes, but both sizes are remarkably stretchy. The hat pictured is the smaller size in a beanie style. Sizes: 18"-20" [45.7-50.8cm] circumference (20"-22" [50.8-55.9cm] circumference) Teen/small adult (regular/large adult) Directions for either a beanie style or a slouchy style are provided for both sizes. Consummate V's Hat
Materials:
Needles
- One 16" circular needle in size US 7 [4.5mm] - One 16" circular needle in size US 9 [5.5mm] - One set double-pointed needles in size US 9 [5.5mm] Or size to obtain gauge.
Yarn
- 110 yds - 175 yds (small beanie - large slouchy) of worsted weight yarn. Used in pictures: one skein of Southwest Trading Company Karaoke.
Notions
- darning needle for weaving in ends - stitch marker Gauge: - 17.5sts = 4" in stockinette stitch with the larger needles. Stitch Patterns: 2x2 ribbing In the round \*k2, p2; repeat from \* to end. Repeat this round. Consummate V's Pattern In the round Rnd 1: \*yo, ssk, k8; repeat from \* to end Rnd 2 and all even rows: knit all sts Rnd 3: \*kl, yo, ssk, k5, k2tog, yo; repeat from \* to end Rnd 5: \*k2, yo, ssk, k3, k2tog, yo, kl; repeat from \* to end Rnd 7: \*k5, yo, ssk, k3; repeat from \* to end Rnd 9: \*k3, k2tog, yo, kl, yo, ssk, k2; repeat from \* to end Rnd 11: \*k2, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, ssk, k1 repeat from \* to end Rnd 12: knit all sts. Repeat Rnds 1-12.
Consummate V's pattern

Abbreviations: yo: Yarn over ssk: Slip, slip, knit k2tog: Knit two stitches together CO: Cast on M1: Make one extra stitch by inserting the left needle from front to back under the strand of yarn that runs between the the last st worked and the next st on the left needle. Knit that through back loop.

Hat Directions for all sizes: CO 80 (88)sts using smaller size needles. Place marker and join to work in the round, being careful not to twist sts. Knit in 2x2 ribbing for 1.5" (2"). Switch to larger size circulars. Smaller size: Knit one rnd. Larger size: M1, k44, M1, k44. (You should now have 90 sts.) You will now begin knitting in Consummate V pattern. For theBeanie style: Repeat rounds 1-12 until hat is 6.5" (7") from the beginning of the hat ending on either a round 6 or 12. Then begin knitting the decrease rounds.
For the Slouchy style:
Repeat rounds 1-12 until hat is 8.5" (9") from the beginning of the hat ending on either a round 6 or 12. Then begin knitting the decrease rounds. Decrease rounds: (switch to DPNs when needed) If you end on a row 6 (hat pictured was knit ending on a row 6): Round 1: k5, ssk, \*k8, ssk; repeat from \* to last three sts, k3 Round 2: knit all sts Round 3: \*k 3, k2tog, kl, ssk, kl; repeat from \* to end Round 4: knit all sts Round 5: \*knit 2, k2tog, kl, ssk; repeat from \* to end Round 6: knit all sts to last st in round. Slip st from left needle to right needle, remove marker, move the slipped st back to left needle, replace marker. Round 7: \*ssk, k2tog, kl; repeat from \* to end Round 8: \*ssk, kl; repeat from \* to end Round 9: ssk to the end. If you end on a row 12: Round 1: \*ssk, k8; repeat from \* to end Round 2: knit all sts Round 3: \*k1, ssk, k4, k2tog; repeat from \* to end Round 4: knit all sts Round 5: \*k1, ssk, k2, k2tog; repeat from \* to end Round 6: knit all sts Round 7: \*kl, ssk, k2tog; repeat from \* to end Round 8: \*k1, ssk; repeat from \* to end Round 9: ssk to end.

For all styles: Cut yarn, thread yarn through live stitches, pull tight to fasten. Weave in ends and lightly block. If a slouchier style is desired, block more aggressively.
