

In addition to your Vagrant Winter Hat, you must have matching Vagrant Winter Mitts! These easy handwarmers can be knit up with the extra yarn left from your hat project. Materials: Bulky weight wool blend yarn. Example mitts were knit in Universal Classic Chunky Tweed [131 yds, 100 g., Acrylic, Wool, Rayon) 1 ball. Double-pointed needles, size 10. Tapestry needle, markers. Gauge: 14 sts to 4 in. Abbreviations: K = Knit P = Purl PM = put marker SM = slip marker RM = remove marker M1 = make 1 or lift the yarn between last st and next st with left hand needle through the front and knit into the back loop. Garter Rib pattern: Row 1: Knit to end. Row 2: \*K2, P2\* to end.

Instructions:
Cast on 28 sts, divide evenly on 3 double-pointed needles. Join, making sure not to twist stitches. PM to mark beginning of round. Work in Garter Rib pattern for 20 rows. Make thumb gusset: Row 1: Knit 13 sts, PM, M1, PM, knit to end. Row 2: \*K2, P2\* to within 1 st of marker, K1, SM, P1 st, SM, K1, P2, continue K2, P2 to end. Row 3: Knit to marker, SM, M1, knit to marker, M1, SM. Knit to end of row. Row 4: K2, P2 to within 1 st of marker, K1. SM, work K1, P1 rib within markers, SM, K1, P2, K2 P2 to end, ending with P2. Repeat rows 3 and 4 (continuing K1, P1 rib within markers), until there are 9 thumb gusset stitches. Next row: Knit to markers, RM, bind off 9 gusset stitches, RM, Knit to end. Next row: K2, P2 to end. Continue in Garter Rib pattern for 12 more rows. Bind off all sts.Weave in ends. Make another mitt in the same manner!
