The “it doesn't ride up and fall off “ Headband by Heather Phillips August 2010

Materials:
1 pkg of size 3 “fashion” crochet thread. You can also use washable lace weight and fingering weight yarns. Left over superwash wool sock yarn works well. The headband uses about 70 to 75 yards of yarn—one 150 yard package of size three crochet thread will make two headbands. Headbands work the best in cotton, cotton blends that are at least $40\%$ or more cotton and wool. Natural fibers like cotton or wool have fibers that grip the hair—acrylic has a tendency to slide around on the head. 1 tapestry needle 1 pair of scissors size 4 us $(3.5\mathrm{mm})$ knitting needles Glossary: slp1pw-slip one stitch pearlwise from the left needle to the right needle Yo-yarn over, wrap the yarn from the back around the right needle to the front and ending with the yarn in the back. Note this headband is made to be washed before it is worn and will shrink by 3 inches in length and 1/8 inch in width. This headband should be washed at least once a month to maintain its shape. The finished headband before being washed is 21 inches in length and 2 inches in width. The washed length is 18 inches and 1 and 7/8 inches in width. This size is important to have the right stretch to hold the hair back and stay on the head. This headband can be knit of size 10 crochet thread on size 2(us) needles.
