GIRLIE MITTS
By Kristle Chester Ed. Heather Ross

One size fits most. Sizes
Description
Knitting lace needn't be a six-month ordeal. These lace mitts knit up quickly in your favorite sock yarn and are the perfect weight for wearing both indoors and out. Small cables draw the wrist in and ribs across the palms provide both elasticity and fit. Picot points prevent circulation-restricting bind-offs while providing a decorative touch. The mitts leave your fingers free, allowing freedom of movement while keeping your hands warm. If you want clear stitch definition for the lace panels, use a solid or semisolid yarn, not self-striping or hand painted.

Thumb
Pick up 20 sts from your waste yarn on two double point needles. (Ten sts top and ten sts bottom are live.) Once your live sts are on your needles, untie the knot in your waste yarn, take a tapestry needle or spare double point, and pick the waste yarn out of the sts. Tip: Hold the glove in one hand and jerk the waste yarn lightly in the direction of the live sts to pick them up easily. Attach yarn and k 7 sts from the lower needle. K 3 sts from lower needle onto new needle. Pick up two sts from the space between the upper and lower needle and k2tog. K three sts from top needle onto new needle. K remaining sts from top needle. Pick up two sts in space between top needle and bottom needle. K these two sts together. K 7 rounds and bind off loosely. Tip: If you normally bind off tightly, bind off on a size 4 or 3.5 mm needle.
