Sock recipe for lacy toe-up socks This is not a whole sock pattern, but rather a recipe to be supplemented with your favourite toe and heel. I prefer using short-row toe and heel constructions. A fabulous one can be bought on Ravelry for US \$ 1.00 from the Sox Therapist: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fish-lips-kiss-heel. This is a recipe for making socks which requires some knowledge on sock construction and your preferred sizing. Some hints on sizing are given, based on my gauge and sock size. The recipe gives hints and additional information that can be ignored ifyou use a different toe and / or heel construction or do not need a mini-gusset with the FLK heel. Please note: this pattern is not recommended for beginners, both in lace and in sock knitting. It does require some experience in reading your lace as well as in transferring stitches at the beginning and end of some rows.
Gauge on 10x10 cm (4x4 in):
35 stitches and 48 rows in stockinette after soaking. Size: 64 stitches. European 39 (UK 6, US 8.5), narrow feet.
Yarn:
About 400 yards of Fingering, Madelinetosh Tosh Sock (Colourway Aura shown in the pics). Needles: 2.25mm (US 1).
Stitch pattern:
Please refer to either chart or written instructions at the end of this recipe.

Notes and annotations
My sock measures 18cm (7.1 in) circumference blocked, but unstretched, and fits a 21 cm (8.3 in) circumference foot. For a different size, I suggest going up or down in needle size.

Instructions:
With size 2.25mm needle and using your preferred toe construction, cast on and work to a toe box of app. 5.5 cm length and 64 stitches circumference. Divide your work in 32 instep stitches and 32 sole stitches. The sole stitches are the beginning of your round. Knit 1 row in the round. Start row 2 with 32 sole stitches in plain stockinette (this applies to all rows of the foot!), then start instep pattern on 32 instep stitches. Work the 12 rows of the foot pattern 5.5 times or for the length you need. These instructions will guide you to proceed to leg patterning in row 7 of the chart. Work the heel in row 6 of the sixth time of the pattern chart. For a short row heel, continue in the round, working 12 rows with the instep (!) chart pattern on instep stitches and plain stockinette on the back of the leg (the former sole stitches), ending with row 6 of the foot chart. In row 7 of the patterning, start working the back of the leg pattern. This once, you'll start by transferring the first two stitches of the round to the end of the previous row. Then start leg pattern. Please note: every time you work row 6 you start with transferring the first stitch back to the last row, ending row 7 with a k2tog that encompasses that stitch. Similarly, every time you knit row 1, you start with stealing the last stitch from the previous row, knitting an ssk out of that stitch and the first stitch of row 1. If you look closely at your lace repeats, you will notice that the lines created by the previous k3togs and ssks will be carried on and across. Personally, I like to use the Fish Lips Kiss Heel method for the toes as well: with a provisional cast-on, using a second cable, cast on 32 stitches, work a FLK toe on 1+11+8+11+1 stitches. Pick up 32 stitches from provisional cast on. I need a mini-gusset for my socks with the FLK Heel. After 4.5 times working the patterning, I started the shaping of the mini gusset in row 9: kfb at each end of sole stitches every 4th row 2 times. This gave me 36 sole stitches. In row 6 of the fifth time working the patterning, I did the FLK heelon 1+1+11+10+11+1+1 stitches and then continued in the round. I then got rid of the mini-gusset by decreasing by 1 on each side once in row 6 after turning the heel (row 12 of the pattern), resulting in 64 stitches.

Knit to your preferred length (minus about 1 inch) in patterning, ending with row 6 - PLEASE NOTE: at the end of this row, you will knit all stitches as and where they are, not transferring any. Start twisted rib with \*ktbl1, p1\*, repeat from \* till end. Your ktbls should align with the lines created from the previous k2tog. Work 12 rows of twisted rib. Bind off using your preferred stretchy bindoff method. Weave in ends. Enjoy! I knit a total of 60 rows after turning the heel and before the ribbing. I very much like Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind off (JSSBO): http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfal 109/FEATjssbo.php
