Aunt Nmny's Knits

Early Prost at
Aunt Ninny believes that sparkles, like thong undies, do not belong on anyone over 25—-but there are exceptions. For sparkles, at least. The Early Frost Hat is one. Teeny tiny sequins hidden in the mohair flash like frost when the light hits them. The deep brim, worked in a twisted cable rib, adds structure and warmth and keeps the hat in place no matter what kind of trouble you get into. This beau chapeau paillete uses three different yarns: a worsted weight for the brim (Berroco Vintage in samples), then a combination of Knitting Fever Schmaltz —-yes, Schmaltz!——a sequined novelty yarn, and Berroco Cirrus, a mid-weight mohair, for the top. You'll have enough Schmaltz left over for other endeavors, and good thing, too, for what's life without a dollop of schmaltz?

Pattern Notes
The hat brim is worked in Berroco Vintage, and the body is worked with one strand of Cirrus and one strand of Schmaltz held together. TwistedGable Pattern K2 as follows: k into the back of the second st on the lefthand needle, do not remove st from needle, k into the first st, pull both sts off needle. Centered Double Decrease (cdd or s2k2) Slip 2 sts together knitwise, k1, pass 2 slipped sts over the k st and off the needle. Two sts decreased. This leaves the center stitch on top, creating a little ridge, and the decreases don't spiral. In this hat there are six double decreases so they make a pretty little étoile on top. Direclions On US size 7 circular needles with the Vintage, CO 96 sts. Join in the round, place marker, and work in twisted cable rib as follows: Round 1: \*K2, p2, repeat from \* around Round 2: \*K2 in twisted cable (see notes above), p2, repeat from \* around Repeat rounds 1 and 2 for 4 ins from CO edge or desired brim length.
