These are very beginner-friendly: basic fingerless mitts, knit with natural wool to help keep hands warm and dry in the woods and swamps. They were designed with the escapes and adventures of a 14-year-old boy in mind. The color pattern is simple, but adds interest. These are quick to knit, especially if you have already tried your hand at mitts or socks.
Size:
Teen boy or women's smal
Materials:
. Two colors of worsted weight wool-l used Lion Brand Fisherman's Wool Solids in brown and Cascade 220 Heathers in dark green (these mitts don't use up much yarn at all) . Size 5 DPNs . Tapestry needle for sewing up ends @ 2Oll chelsea berkompas -- For personal use only -- All rights reserved
Notes:
These mitts are knitted on DPNs from the bottom up. The stripes are knitted using the jog-less join technique. This is a very simple way of knitting stripes so that they match up instead of resulting in the natural spiral pattern. Just make sure when switching colors on the second row of the new color, pick up the stitch below and knit it together with the new one. This way you will hide the natural spiral pattern of the stripes. KFB: knit into the front of the stitch. Without slipping stitch, then knit into the back of the stitch, thus increasing by one.
Directious:
Wrist: With brown (B), CO 36 stitches and join in the round (don't twist stitches!) K2, P2 for 16 rounds. Palm of Hand: K even 3 rounds in (B), K 1 round in green (G), continuing the striping sequence throughout the pattern, making sure to remember to use the jogless join. Repeat these 4 rounds one more time, for 8 rounds total of stripes.
Thumb Gusset:

CO 6 and rejoin. @ 2Oll chelsea berkompas -- For personal use only -- All rights reserved Fingers and Thumb: Continue to K even (continuing same stripe pattern) for 15 more rounds. With (B) start 2x2 rib for 6 rounds and BO in pattern. Pick up the 14 stitches waiting on the scrap yarn and 4 new stitches next to the fingers (18 st total) and k even one round with the next color in the sequence. With (B) start 2x2 rib for 7 rows, BO in pattern. Sew up loose ends and holes in thumb. Now you have some warm, rugged mitts worthy of your next hunting adventure!
