Chopsticks case

Yarn Creations by Julie A friend had an unusual request: a case for her chopsticks. She was tired of wrapping them in handkerchiefs and tissues whenever she wanted to throw them in her purse. After a bit of thought, I came up with just the thing to solve her problem. Itemsneeded: Worsted weight cotton (I used Lily Sugar 'n Cream Ombres-Moondance) H hook Scissors Yarn needle to weave in end Finished product when closed: 9.5" long x 1" wide, 3" around This pattern is written in U.S. terms. ch = chain sc = single crochet sc2tog = single crochet 2 together dc = double crochet

Note: the rounds in this pattern do not join; you just crochet continuously. Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the first 3 rounds. You won't need it after that.

Start with a magic circle Round 1: sc 5 into magic circle (5 stitches) Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch (10 stitches) Round 3: 1 sc in back loop of each stitch (10 stitches) Round 4: 1 sc in each stitch (10 stitches) Rounds 5-40: repeat Round 4 until case is approximately 1" from desired length (add or subtract rounds as needed.) (10 stitches) Round 41: ch 10, skip 4 stitches and sc in 5" stitch from start of ch, sc in each remaining stitch around Round 42: dc in each skipped stitch from previous round, sc in each sc from previous round Rounds 43-47: repeat Round 4 until case is desired length (add or subtract rounds as needed to reach desired length.) Row 1 (start of flap): with the chain facing you, choose a stitch on the back of the round directly opposite the end of the chain; beginning with this stitch sc in next 5 stitches of the round, ch 1, turn Row 2: sc in 5 stitches, ch 1, turn (5 stitches)

Row 3: sc in each stitch, ch 1, turn (5 stitches) Rows 4-6 : repeat Row 2 (5 stitches) Row 7: sc2tog, sc, sc2tog, ch 1, turn (3 stitches) Row 8: sc in each stitch, ch 1, turn (3 stitches) Rows 9-12: repeat row 7 until you reach desired length (3 stitches) Cut and weave in end.
