Materials
Shokay International www.shokay.com 4x100g skeins of Shokay 100% Yak yarn in turquoise. 1 pair 51/2mm needles 1 circular 51/2mm needle 80cm 12 markers or scrap yarn to mark rows Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate. This garment takes a full 4x100g for the larger size.
Tension
16 sts and 21 rows to 10cm using 5/2mm needles over st st after light steaming. Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.
Abbreviations
k2tog: knit 2 together inc: increase 1 st by knitting into the front and back of the next st m1: Increase 1 st by picking up the loop lying between the stitches on the right and left needles, and knit into the back of it. rep: repeat RS: right side slklpsso: (US skpo) slip 1 st , knit 1 st , pass slipped stitch over the knitted st. st(s): stitch(es) stst: stocking stitch (US stockinette stitch), knit all RS rows, purl all WS rows in flat knitting. Right cuff
With straight needles, cast on 56sts and work in stst (RS knit, WS purl) for 5 rows. Row 6: Knit (making a ridge). Row 7(RS): K2, \*inc 1, k4, rep from \* to last 4 sts, inc 1, k3 (67 sts) Rows 8 to 14: Starting with a purl row (WS), stst 7 rows. Row 15(RS): K3, \*k2tog, k4, rep from \* to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2 (56 sts). Row 16: Purl (mark both ends of this row for the cuff). Right sleeve Increase 1 st at both ends of the 5th and the 14 following 6" rows as follows - Starting with a knit row, stst 4 rows. Row 5 (RS): K1, m1, k to last st, m1, k1. Rows 6 to 10: Starting with a purl row, work 5 rows in stst. Rows 11 to 88: Repeat the last 6 rows 13 more times (86 sts) Row 89 (RS): K1, m1, k to last st, m1, k1. Row 90: Purl (mark both ends of this row for the right sleeve). Right front edge Row 91: Cast off 3sts, k to end. Row 92: Purl Rows 93 to 112: Repeat the last 2 rows 10 more times (53 sts). Mark the end of the last row (right front marker). Row 113: K1, k2tog, k to end. Row 114: Purl Rows 115 to 136: Repeat the last 2 rows 11 more times (41sts). Mark the end of the last row (back neck marker). Back neck Rows 137 to 182: Work 34[46] rows in stst. Mark the end of the last row (back neck marker). Left front edge Row 183: K1, ml, k to end. Row 184: Purl Rows 185 to 206: Repeat the last 2 rows 11 more times (53 sts). Mark the end of the last row (left front marker). Row 207: Cast on 3 sts, k to end. Row 208: Purl Rows 209 to 228: Repeat the last 2 rows 10 more times (86sts) marking both ends of the last row for the left sleeve. Left sleeve Row 229: K1, k2tog, k to last 3 sts, sllk1psso, k1. Rows 230 to 234: Starting with a purl row, stst 5 rows ending with RS facing. Rows 235 to 318: Repeat the last 6 rows 14 more times (56 sts), marking both ends of the last row for the left cuff. Left cuff Row 1(RS): K3, \*m1, k5, repeat from \* to last 3 sts, m1, k3 (67 sts) Rows 2 to 8: Starting with a purl row (WS), stst 7 rows. Row 9(RS): K3, \*k2tog, k4, rep from \* to last 4 sts, k2tog, k2 (56 sts). Row 10(WS): Knit (making a ridge). Rows 11 to 16: Starting with a knit row, work 5 rows in stst. Cast off.
Interim make up
Pin out using measurement diagram as a guide. Steam very lightly and allow to dry thoroughly. Join sleeve seams (from cast on/cast off edge to sleeve markers).
Edging
With circular needle, RS facing and starting at left sleeve seam, pick up and knit 90sts along edge of Back, 33sts to right front marker, 24sts to back neck, 20[30] sts along back neck, 24 sts to left front marker and 33 sts to left sleeve seam (224[234] sts). Mark end of round. Round 1: K2, \*inc 1, k4 rep from \* to last 2 sts, inc 1, k1 (267[281]sts). Rounds 2 to 8: Knit 7 rounds. Round 9: K2, \*k2tog, k4, rep from \* to last 3sts, k2tog, k1 (224 [234]sts). Round 10: Purl (making a ridge). Rounds 11 to 15: Knit 5 rounds. Cast off.
Make up
Darn in loose ends. To make front edge roll, fold edge along ridge (WS together). Fold again to the WS, bringing ridge to edge of shrug (where sts were picked up). Oversew in place taking care not to let sts show through to Rs. Repeat for both cuffs.
