Voyageur Toque Knitting Pattern: Warm and Stylish for Winter Adventures

VOYAGEUR TOQUE

Whether you're paddling a canoe, trading beaver pelts for credits at the fort store, or just braving the winter cold, this hat is sure to keep any voyageur warm. This toque (pronounced like "took") is knit in the round but may be made flat and sewn up later if desired.

MATERIALS

1 skein of Premier Yarns Wool Worsted (100% wool, 186 yds, 100 g) in Pasha Red Set of 5 size US 8 double-pointed needles

Gauge: 19 s X 24 r = 4"X 4" Size: Adult Medium (18 12" circumference, fits a 22" head) One size fits most adults Directions: Cast On 84 stitches, divide onto needles as follows: Needles 1 and 3: 22 stitches, Needles 2 and 4: 20 stitches. Join into a round and work in k1 p1 ribbing for 3", then work in Stockinette stitch (knit all stitches) until the piece measures 6" long.

Redistribute the stitches so that there are 21 stitches on each needle. Then work as follows: Decrease round: k2tog, knit to last two stitches on needle 2, ssk, k2tog (first two stitches on needle 3), knit to last two stitches on needle 4, ssk. Next round: knit around Repeat these two rounds until 4 stitches remain. Cut the yarn, leaving a 6-inch tail; draw the tail through the remaining four stitches, pull tight, weave in tail and cut.
