Glimpse of Spring Wrist Warmers by AlpiKnit
Glimpse of Spring Wrist Warmers are made from two rectangles knit back and forth instockingstitch.Eachrectangleisfoldedinhalfandsewedalongsides, withan opening left for thumb. The sample shown here is knit with gray and green light worsted weight yarns on size 3mm [US 2] needles (such small needles give a tight gauge and produce a very thick and compact fabric). Each worsted weight yarn is combined with two strands of thin melange mohair, which shade (and somehow 'hide') thepattern stripes.
Gauge
5.5 sts and 7.5 rows to measure 2.5x2.5cm /1x1 inches over stocking st using size 3mm [US 2] needles
Materials
1 ball of light worsted weight yarn in gray/main colour (approximately 50 gr/1.7 oz) 1 ball of light worsted weight yarn in green/contrast colour (less than 50 gr/1.7 oz) 1 ball of thin melange mohair yarn (optional) A pair of 3mm [US 2] knitting needles A tapestryneedle
Finished Measurements & Size
Measured flat (before sewing) each wrist warmer is 19 cm [7.5 inches] wide and 24 cm [9.5 inches] high. Once sewed it fits a size M/L hand. However, since wrist warmer is basically a rectangle folded in half, making it smaller or larger shouldn't be a problem. Just vary the number of cast on sts to match your desired width accordingtogauge:

Instructions (make 2 identical pieces)
On 3mm [US 2] size knitting needles cast on 42 sts using MC yarn. Rows 1and 2: knit Start working in stocking st, as follows: Row 3 (RS) and all odd rows: knit all sts across row Row 4 (wS) and all even rows: purl all sts across row When piece measures 10 cm [4 inches] from cast on switch to CC yarn: you'll now work 38 rows alternating knit and purl rows of CC and MC yarn (each time add two more rows of CC yarn before switching back to MC yarn), as shown in side chart. Next: switch to MC yarn and decrease 6 sts evenly across row, as follows: Row 39 (RS): \*k5, k2tog\*, rep. across row Next: knit two rows in rib 1x1, as follows: Row 40 (WS): \*p1, k1\*, rep. across row Row 41: work sts as they appear Bind off loosely and weave in all loose ends.
Finishing
Fold piece in half horizontally. With a cut length of yarn threaded on a tapestry needle, begin sewing sides together (green lines on figure), working from bottom up until you are approximately 14 cm [5.5 inches] from cast on. Leave a 5 cm [2 inches] opening for thumb then resume sewing until you reach the top. Voila, done! Enjoy your wrist warmers!
