a ginpse of Spring

Technical:
Size: Women's (20" Brim circumference) Gauge: 22 sts = 4" in stockinette Needles: · US 5 / 3.75mm double pointed needles (optional) · US 6 / 4mm double pointed needles · US 6 / 4mm 16" circular needle (optional) · 4mm crochet hook Yarn: ● Main: Noro Maiko (DK weight; wool, mohair, silk blend) approximately 90 meters Trim: two contrast yarns (DK to bulky weight) approximately 5 meters of each colour. The look and feel of the hat will vary slightly with the trim yarns you choose. 0 Example: Cascade Venezia Worsted (green), and Cascade Ecological Bulky (dark brown)
Hat:
With US 6 / 4mm double pointed needles (or circular needle) and main colour, cast on 108 stitches. I suggest an elastic cast on technique, such as the twisted German cast on. Distribute stitches over 4 double pointed needles or circular needle, place marker, and join round. Knit 8 rounds.
Lace:
Round 1: \*K4, YO, K2tog\* repeat to end of round Round 2: Knit Round 3: Knit Round 4: Knit Round 5: K1, YO, K2tog, \*K4, YO, K2tog\* repeat until last 3 stitches, K3 Repeat rounds 2-4 Round 9: \*K4, YO, K2tog\* repeat to end of round Repeat rounds 2-4 Round 13: K1, YO, K2tog, \*K4, YO, K2tog\* repeat until last 3 stitches, K3 Repeat rounds 2-4 Round 17: \*K4, YO, K2tog\* repeat to end of round Repeat rounds 2-4
Top Shaping:
Break yarn, leaving a tail. Draw tail tightly through remaining stitches. Fasten off
Trim:

Depending on the weight of the trim yarn you chose you may want to use a smaller or a larger crochet hook to prevent the trim from being too loose or too tight. Using the first trim colour (green in example) and crochet hook, work one round of slip stitch crochet into the bottom of hat.

You will now see loops of the main colour knit stitches protruding below the slip stitch crochet round. Using the second trim colour (dark brown in example) and crochet hook, work one round of single crochet into those protruding loops.

Finishing:
Weave in ends. Wash or steam and block hat. Questionsorcommentsaboutthispatterncanbedirectedtomeviaemail: willow.canda@ gmail.com or via Ravelry.
